Council could flot agree on a priority list of works to be undertaken. The final decision was put off till a later meeting. The Orono Cubs are to bc snug in their new tents on camp-outs this year and in the future. Mr. Dan Martin, president of the Orono Fish and Hunt Club, presents a cheque in the amount Queen's Park Report <Continued from page 3) years of age and up. I don't think they have given sufficient consideration to statistics that indicate many people past the age of 70 live to a ripe old age. The risk factor I suggested, may well bc in younger retirees, who haven't played tennis for 40 years and suddenly, on retirement, decide to take up tennis and running! The Canadian Snowbird Association are going to make representation te the Fiorida State Governmnent, in an effort to have legislation passed te cap medical fees i n Florida at the resident rates for Canadians wintering in their state. Thîs legislation wil do much to make insurance affordable. I'm hopeful o f an agreement, after ail, their economy wîil suffer if seniors can noý longer afford te go there. Tbis week, I thought I would include some social notes to my weekly column in a change of pace - Last week, I coached the "Ontario Legiskaters", our all party legisiative hockey teare, to a 6-5 loss at St. Michals Arena in Toronto. It was our last game of the season and it raised $6,000 for the Children's Wish Foundation. I may flot be a "Pat Burns" but then bc doesnt get te tell the Premier of the Province to cover his man butter next shift out! On VWednesday, I represented our govemnment at a luncheon to "ïîss our parliamentary system ,a Russian acadeic visiting Canada who is involved-in the reform of the Russian parliainent. They have to deal with 20 differunt dialects in t heir govemnment. It must be tough to heckle under those conditions! On Thursday evening I had the honour of congratulating several people from the riding at the 1994 Volunteer Service Awards, "A of $500.00 from the club to the Etmanskie, range manager, left, Cub Akela, David Webb. The for the Fish and Hunt and Cub money is te be used to purchase leader Garry Healey, right. tenta.1 The cubs are eager te put up Also takîng part in the thefirst tent. presentation is Mr. Peter Celebration of Northern Lights" along with the Minister of Culture andý Recreation & Tourism, the Hon. Anne Swarbrick, at the General Sikorski Hall in Oshawa. On Saturday morning 1 attended the Royal Canadian Legion District F Convention at Branch 43 in Oshawa, and was asked to speak about the Ontario Government's Veteran's Committee which I Chair. The planned celebration of "D" Day in Toronto, and participation by the Ontario Government in the event was also the subject of some discussion. On the same afternoon, 1 was at the Oshawa Centre in support of the "Citizens for Cancer" drive to raise public interest in brînging radiation treatment facilities to Oshawa General Hospital. On Sunday, I attended the 160th celebration morning service, at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Bowmanville. That afternoon, I went to the dedication service of the new building extension te Trinity United Church.' On Monday at noon, I have the honour of representing the government along with the Lt. Governor, His Honour Hal Jackman, at the official ceremony at the Ontario Legislature, welcoming the Queen's Baton of Commonwealth Games to Ontario. That uvening I'm going to Port Hope High School to represent the Minister of Education at the local summit on violence-free schools. Add to this schedule, other events, parliamentary and committee duties, writing letters, dealing with people who need help and others who want to cause havoc, doesn't leave me much time for other things - such as spending some time with my wife or writing this weekly column. I cant close off the column without dealing with criticism from. London MPP, Dianne Cunningham, who drifted into the riding at the recent local Conservative Party love-in, and had the nerve to tell the press that the residents of this riding have flot been well served since 1990. To criticize the policy of the govemnment I say is fair play. To personally criticize the member while visiting the riding, is dirty politics. I would welcome the examination of my record as the MPWP for Durham East, along with ail of the financial details, expenses, use of accommodation, and much much more, related to my tenure of office, as compared to the period prior to 1990. The type of statement made by Ms. Cunningham I will flot allow to go unchallenged. If the local Conservative's plan to play dirty politics with me, I can assure them they have picked the wrong person to tango with! Until next week - the two most preclous things this side of the grave are our reputation and our life. Orono School WaI1k T ra il __ (Continued from page 1) and that ail will take advantage of the walk and its work-out stations. The Trail wil benefit flot only those at the school but will be available for use by ail in the community.
