The Kirby school recently launched their Ecology Trail by planting a number of tree along what wil be the trafi. The twenty trees were donated I have been employed by the Orono Weekly Times for nearly two years now. In that time I have had an opportumity to cover a number of events from World Cup Orientecring in Ganaraska, te July lst pienies and barbecues. I have written about a wide range of things from 8th birthdays, to the Stapleton victory over the IWA, to school sporting events. What do 1 consider te be the best things that I have donc? Anything that involves elementary school productions. Last Thursday, 1 was at the Kirby Centennial spring concert, and I have to tell you, it was great. A hoot. I laughed alxnost tiil I cried. It started with the Junior Kindergarten number, «April Showcrs". Wc know how the rhyme goes, I dont need to bring you Up to specd on that one. The students ail cute as cari bc came out in their littie groups, with the cardboard raindrops, flowcrs or whatnot on their hcad with thc Hlte faces pceping through. Each littie group had their line to say. Problem was, as is normal with ail the distractions, lines wcrc forgotten. One of the butterflies remembercd that she was supposed te say "butterfiies" upon entcring thc stage, but she was flying solo. Next came Uic birds. Their Une forgotten as well. "Birds! Say, BIRDS", in repeate d whispers, from backstage. Finally one of the birds figurcd it out and told the rest of his flock. "Hey, say birds." Thankyou!! 'Me Senior Kindergarten class prescnited a number called six by Windatt Nurseries north of Newtonvile Roy MacDonald and Harry Wcatherup, custodian at the school, have everything in hand. littie ducks. This number came complete with the littie girl that seemed more intent on getting her costume just right and forgeuting that she was supposed to sing. And I can't forget the littie duck dhat stopped te fixed her webbed foot that had turned itself around backwards. With her abrupt stop she almost sent the remaining three ducks crashing linto her from behind. The grade one class did a rousing - rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. You know that song too. "if you say it loud enough you'il always sound precocious". Weil, one young mani had the right idea. He drowned out the rest of the class. The whole show was wonderful. 1I know I amrnfot alone in saying this because 1 saw the tears of laughter and the smiles on the faces of the parents around Me. 1 can honcstly say that this is my favorite part of my job. If your school is having a production, or if your child is in one, Jet me know. Even if I arn not working, I would love to go. Capital Theatre, purchases additional properties Thec board of directors of the Capitol Theatre foundation has confirmed that the foundation has purchased additional property adjacent to the Capitol Theatre that would'be necdcd in the future to expand the thcatre operation., The properties included two stores with apartments above along with vacant property alongside the theatre. Only $ 1,000 of dic $350,0(x) so far raised is nccded to fïinance the purchaàse at this lime. If you ask the kids they wil tell you they did ail the work while the two men leaned on the shovel handles. Support falis off in donations The number of families using the Fair Share Food Banks in Cobourg and Port Hope has remnained constant over the past year. But the other side of the coin doesn't make as good ncws. Donations of foods and funds to the Fair Share operation is down over last year.
