The decision to close the centre carne on Saturday when a group of volunteer workers and members of a support group met at the Centre. Funding was one of the main reasons for the closing but there was consideration given to a revamping of a program for such a centre. The support group was about to submit a request for funding from the province but put such request aside until further consideration can be given to such an operation. Reconsideration of the Centre is expected to be taken in late summer or in early September. The seminar is being held Thursday, May 19th from h1 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Bowmanville Lions Centre. The seminar will include lunch at a cost of $6.00. The seminar includes not only the demonstration of lime dancing by the Orono group but also seniors exercise programs, TAI CHI. Also included in the prograin is a report from the Seniors Community Action Teamn which is working towards further pro motions of senior events in the municipality. The Action Teamn wan devised at a former meeting and luncheon on April 2th.* The Seniors are hoping that in the not too distant future a centre may become available to thern through the revamping of the Bowmianviile Fire Station which will become redundant with the opening of the new fire station later this year. Also onMay l9th a representative of the Public health Department will speak on Osteoporosis. Further entertaininent for the seminar includes the renditions of the Country Four and a further popular group the Clogging Grandmothers. The Orono Horticultural House Plant Show was held at the church on Thursday evening, April 28th. There was a real nice attendance with new faces. Shelley opened the meeting and O'Canada was sung with Doreen at the piano. Minutes of last meçeting -was given by Fbo Sharp,, and a poem read by Shelley. Adele McGill was called on'to give the treasurers report. $3,146.80 in the bank, $59.85 dues to bc paid to District # 17, $400.00 grant was received from the Municipality of Clarington. Members were asked to donate perennials to Orono Public School for a new flower bed they are preparing, in front of the school. Mrs. Cheri Eikens from J.C.'s Evergreens was our guest speaker on annuals, and was introduced by Shelley. Cheri showed new varieties of geraniums, New Guinea, Impatiens, tuberous begonias. New colour of Impatiens is "Show Stopper" a deep red, double Impatiens, vibrant orange and red colours. Cheri spoke on the publishing of their lst issue of "Good Neighbour G'ardener«. Cheri donated three lovely baskets of plants for the draw. Along with the lovely plant show there were many Hobby & Crafts shown. Sorry I didn't get the naines of ail that showed. There was also a plant sale. Next montli is plant sale also. So corne and maybe you will find something that you would like. Doreen was called on to announce the winners of the Plant Show.
