Now on a roll, the group sang in the Ontario Vocal Festival in March of 1994, held in Oshawa and were gold medal recipients, the higbest standard achievable in -this festival. Along with the gold- standing, the group were one of few in their category to receive an invitation to participate at the Canada Musicfest, the National Musical Festival which hears only invited participants from the provincial level. While preparing for the Canada Music Festival, the group sang at the Oshawa/Whitby Kiwanis Music Festival and again came up with top honours. The ensemble received first place and an invitation to proceed to the Kiwanis provincial festival. Momentum was building for the group and it certainly paid when they sang at the Canada Music Festival in May. Once again, the group came up golden. After a memorable performance of 5 choral selections, the ensemble was once again bestowed the honour of gold. With the music festival season now largely behind them, the group bas been busy gearing up for their season finale performance. Desiningplan for ftr opertion of two hositls The second of tbree five-hour workshops bas been held relating, to the future of hospitals in the Port Hope/Cobourg area. It bas been reported that some radical and innovat ive options have emerged from thes public sessions on restructuriag hospital services in the two communities and area The status quo- option was the only option that bas been rejected at this time. Ail the groups, which includes some 80 people, spoke out against endeavouring to maintain the status quo. A suggestion was also made that both hospitais bc closed and a new facility bc opened balf-way between the twoTowns. Many of the smnaller groups felt this proposai would be unrealistic due to the potential costs of such a plan. The third discussion meeting is te ho held on July 18th when some costs are t o available. It bas been suggested combining theý boards and administration -of the two hospitals into one body that would manage both hospitals. This idea was alsotaken a further step suggesting that a regional' management body oversee the entire> health-care system including nursing homes, community care and wo possibly the bealth units. 1After the various workshops report back to the iuly meeting a public meeting is w o held. The group hope to have a report ready for the province sometime 1P Septeniber. "It's June!F 15 being held on June 18, 1994 at the St. Saviour's Anglican Church, Mfil St., Orono.
