As ame consultant said, at the rather testy meeting i Bowmanville, the direction is to provide a level of health care i Durli that is equal for ail residents. It is flot a matter of loading one area against another. it is hoped that this is folowed and it does not corne to a point that we forget others in such a crucial element of our lifestyle as health care. The revamping and possible revitalizing of health care is flot being put in place to satisfy the personal gains of caregivers. Nor for those that may have a vested interest. The whole operation must have concemn for Mr. and Mrs. Joe public. There seems to be good reason that Oshawa Hospital wiil become the regional centre and provide those services that are costly and require special staffing that could flot be maintained i on e of the smaller hospitals. There are major changes for the WVhitby hospital but here again the facts show that for inpatient care 39 percent of those residing in Whitby reacli out to the Oshawa hospital for that care and only 26 percent from mhe Town reacli out to their own hospital.. It is interesting to note mhat those in Claington seeking ipatient care, 40.2 percent went to Oshawa while 42.5 percent went to Bowmanviile. No doubt mhe location of Courtice nexn door to Oshawa plays a part i this factor. Let's flot figlit this thing to deamh. It can be of benefit to mhe general public foilowing the four principles as established in the beginnig. There is no doubt mhat as the community grows so will health care opportunies with consideration of economics for ail and i benefit to ail.
