In my teens, my hair, my clothes, and my face seemed 10 be the focus of all mny mothers energy. At the dinner table, she would demand that I remove "the mop" ftom my face if Iitended to eat. An elastic or scissors were offered as my options. The threat of a visit to my dad's thorough, scissor-happy barber hung heavy i the room. "And remove that paint from your face!", she would demand. Dad called make-up 'war pain. I thought it made me look mature, sophisticated. When ii.omn saw couples walking down the street holding hands, she would erupt in a furious diatribe abhout 'hair' and blue jeans. "From behind, you can't tell which is female, and which is maie!" You had a pretty "--od chance of figuring out  ~ch was which if one of them was topless, though. The Ontario Coalition for Integrated Waste Management and Ogd en Martin Systems have a plan for the abandoned Wesleyvillle generating station that has laid idle prior to even being completed years ago. The multinational company and a group of lobbyists for burning garbage scee he potential of using the Wesleyville station as a site for a regional centre for sorting, composting and bumning waste for energy. Waste could as well be shipped in ftom Toronto. A consultant told the county that there is no reason why Wesleyville could flot become the focal point of a massive environmental programn using municipal solid waste as fuel The consultant also questioned the county plan to build a sorting plant for the county which he said would not be economically feéasible because it would only bc handling county garbage. He also said there were flaws in the plans as to composting which would flot resuit in a quality finished product. The company and the group said they were aware that the province would have to change their viewpoint as to the establishment of incineration for burnîng waste before any proposal could be put forward. It was suggested that waste would com e from the area as well as Toronto. Ogden Martin Systems operate twenty-five incinerators. 'Me one proposed for Wesleyville would represent a more integrated approach in dealing with waste, it was stated. The plan would be 10 equip the main building with sorting equipment to process recyclable items and composting material. The incinerator would be buit alongside, the existing smokestack. The proponent said they would have the nucleus of a new economic development or industrial park with immediate available energy.
