Both Brigette and Agathe played strong games for the Orono squad. Lindsay hit the ball hard as did Jennifer and Meagan. Katie, Michelle, Amy, Sarah and Sheilagh scored for the home side but it was not enougb as the White Sox posted a victory. The girls were rained out on August 4th, but returned to the diamond on Atlgust 8th ta face Roy's Enterprigsff. Our'ltte group of 8 faced some very good pitching but each girl managed at least one hit with Jennifer scoring twice and Katie, Sheilagh and Amy once each._ Special thanks to -al the parents and grandparents who came out to support. us, in Courtice. The girls have only one league game left and are looking forward to their final tournament on Saturday, August 27th. Two local men compete ai Paralympics in Germany Two young Clarington men have returned from the Paralympic World Championships, one wearing two gold medals and the other narrowly missing a bronze medal. Jim Shaw, 21, of Newcastle Village, was competing in his first Paralympic World event setting a world record in the discus throw thus taking the gold medal in this event. Rob Snoek, Bowmanville, also attended the Paralympic World Championship held in Germany in the latter part of July. Although there was no gold medal Rob did exceptionally weff in the three events in which he participated. He placed fourth in the A4' (amputee) 100 m race, a mere 1/1OOth of a secondbehind the bronze medal winner. Rob, a former resident from Orono, placed fourth in the 200 m and seventh in the long jump. Rob had competed in the 1992 Paralympic Summer Games in Barcelona, Spain, placing flfth ini the 100 m, the 200 m and in the long jump. Ho now eyes competing in the 1996 Summer Paralympics to bc held in Adanta. Both young men, dedicated athletes, are to be congratulated in their prowess to compete against the bestinl the world.
