For the last îwo weeks, the teain bas been practising bard to the wistles of coaches John Witberidge and Brian Hackett get ready for the 94/95 season. This year, the team is made up of mostly Orono natives starting, with forwards Grant Ester, Devon Witberidge, Guy Tousignan, Jamie Richter, Brett Maartense, Scott and Brent Logan, Newcastle boy Chris Druery and Rookie sensation, Dan, Frew. The defensive squad consist of Josh Bonnetta, Ryan Dewulf, B.J. Hackett, and weaing the mighty 'C' Sbaun H-entig, and playing tbe pipes Scott Sawyer. So remember October 2th, 8-.30 p.m. at the Orono arena. Admission is free. O0rono OMHA Novice with first season win On Friday, October the 4th the Novice boys wbo once again were sponsored by Russ Major Plumbing collected their first season win. Millbrook were the visitor's for this evening and went home defeated by an 8 - 3 loss. Matthew Caruana obviously feeling better these days after a littie bit of the flu ai the beginning of the season scored 5 goals, and 1 assist. Matt scored bis hat-trick ini the first 4 minutes of thegae to give Orono a3 - I lead. Moments later to end the scoring for Major Plumbing ini the first was Curtfis Robinson witb an unassisted goal. Tbe second period was the penalty period starting with Justin Szymczak for rougbing, shortly followed by a 2 minute for to many men, and tben thank heavens ended with Jeff Mercier 2 minutes for body checking. Can't have 10 many more of those types of periods, "ýmakes the defensive job that much more difficult". But in the third the offense 100k control witb Justin Szymczak scoring in the first minute of the period from a nice pass from Curtis Robinson, Bryan Bickell scored bis first goal of the season midway îbrough from a bey-autiful corner pass froin Jeff Mercier 10 the crowded Mat Caruana and onto Bryan's open stick. Jeff Mercier played a good heads up gaine witb getting 4 assists ouI of 8 goals. Nathan Adegeest and Bryan Bickell both received 2 assisîs each. MatI Mitchell assisted on the final goal of the gaine 10 give Major Plumbing their first league win. Sunday, October the 16th the boys travelled t0 Manver's to play a dinner bour gaine. The Orono boys didn't seem to be to hungry as of yet as they lost 6 - 2. Things were staying tigbt with Matt Caruana scoring Iwo short- banded goals, one at the end of the first and the othier 9 seconds into the second, these at this point tied the gaine. Nathan Adegeest bad received a penalty for Iripping when all titis happened. But shortly after Manver's took control and pounded away at the Major Plumbing goalie Ian Crashley. Curtis Robinson and Justin Szymczakc assisted on the only goals of die gaine. Next game is Friday, October 21lst when Orono host Bowmnanville- Toro's. Then Tuesday October the 25th their off 10 Sunderland. Leafs rise above Stars for first win In OMHA Pee Wee action Friday, October 14, Oronos Family Auto Leafs edged the visiting Millbrook stars by a margin of 3-2. It was the Leaf's first home victory of the early season. Orono held a commanding 3-0 lead after two periods of hockey. However the Stars came on in the final franie outshooting the Leafs 10-2 and coming to witbin a goal witb just over six minutes of play left. Solid goaltending by Ryan Leddy, enabled Orono to bang on and preserve the win. Sunday, October 16 Orono travelled 10 Omemee îo-tangle with the Sharks. The Leafs bit off more than they could chew in this contest however, as the Sbarks mauled the Leafs by a 6-0 score. Badly outmatcbed and outshot 48-9 in a penalty-filled affair, Family Auto battled admirably to the final buzzer, much to the delight of the rather boisterous and supportive throng of Orono followers! A remark was beard from the visitors' side, 'They may have nipped us on tbe scoreboard, but they'll know who it was that were playing in their building!"
