After a number of meetings it lias been decided that the Older Aduits committee will, initially, be the primary user of the facility when it is completed. Mr. Don Welsh i addressing council asked that the faciity be designated as an Older Aduit Centrefor Clarington. He said approving the report would allow the committee to plan for the operation of the facility. He said if space was available the group would be supportive of sùch being rented by other groups. He said such rentais would ý-to offset the cost of operation. Tbe Older Aduit committee feels the facility can be self-supporting. Mrs. Annabelle Sissons outlined some of the activities of the Older Aduit group which is currently making use of tbe Bowmanville Lions Centre, weekly, on Tuesdays. The activities run from 10 in the rnorning until 3:15 in the afternoon. She said the Centre bas a membersbip of close to 2450 and that on tbe opening day of the centre nearly 200 were in attendance. Attendance bas settled in at 125 to 150 every Tuesday. She said they anticipate that the miembersbip will rise to 500 when a centre is available on a daily basis. The activities at tbe Lions Centre include Line Dancing, crafts, exercise class, a hot luncb available if ordered in advance, a walking club, a "Time For Me" club. The two co-chairs of tbe Centre group noted one of the difficulties was transportation. A schedule of programs is available for members by pboning 983-5877 or 623-2261. Tbe Clarington Youth Commnittee is to undertake furtber researcb before proceeding with a Youth Centre facility.
