Susan Elston Susan Elston a noted environmentalists said she was basing ber campaign on the three "IEs". Equity of rates; economîcs; energy efficiency and equal representation. She said the commission mnust be creative te belp attract new commercial and industrial development te the municipality. She also said it was important that the utility promote the efficient use of energy in the, home and in industry. In speaking of equal representation she suggested that a Ward system should be established as for coundil and the scbool board. At the presenit time commissieners are elected at large over the whole of the municipality. George Van Dyke S ,George Van Dyke an incumbent commissiener said he had been a member of the commission for the past six years. He said he was intent that hydre rates should be kept down and that there had been a zero increase over the past two years. He spôke of new provincial legisiatien that is expected te be passed in the near future that could allow the Clarington Hydre Electric commission te take over hydre service now previded by Ontario in the areas other than Newcastle, Orono and Bowmanville. He spoke specifically of the Courtice area as a take-over area. He said he would like te see an overal uniform rate in all of Clarington by the year 1997. Presenters will include Karen Gregory, Carol Reilly and Kathy McLaughlin of the Durham Regienal Health Department; Lynda 'Cernell, program consultant with the Addition Research Foundation: and Gord Crymble, addiction counsellor for Clarington Community Addiction Services. The workshop will provide participants with information regarding substance; abuse, strategies te help leaders of young people te beaware of who may be getting inte trouble, and where they can be referred for help.
