You more than likely have beard the same story last year at this time but as you can see the past winter, this spring, summner and fall have donc nothing to add that one new sighting. -Over tbe past two Sundays we have travelled the roads in and araund the seventh concession and especially east of 115 where he heard wild Turkeys have been sighted. Try as we may scanning die fields, hilîs and dales it bas not been as yet successful1. But tben if we don't go out we will neyer met with success. While on the seventh concession road east of 115 last Sunday a large bird was s'ghted in a tree north of the road and whenclose lenough we put it,, down as the Bald Eagle tbat bas been reported in the area. On a dloser look we began to question that it was a Bald Eagle and of courseý that brought out the bird ID books. The Rougb-legged cornes in at .19" in length and -some 52" in wing span. Actually -we saw the bird in two different locations on Sunday. the birdwhicb spends the breeding season in the far north does came sou th in the winter and from some readings ail such birds do make the flight south for food. The Osaca-areabased plant which buys local produce in the county and selîs to food processars is facing a redesignation of their operation from a farm factory to an industrial factory thus a huge increase in taxation. The Nor-County plant opened in 1993 and if the appeal is successful it could have effect on ail other such operations across the province. Maple Syrup pro ducer wins For the third time in four years a Maple Syrup producer in,, Northumberland County has' been a winner at the Royal Winter Fair. Doug and Isobel Wright of Mapledale Syrup Produets, Dale Road, were the Ontario Premier Exhibitors having the highest total score in the three grades of maple syrup along witb the highest score for maple butter, soft maple sugar, stirred maple sugar and hard maple sugar. Threatens goverilment over tritiumi standards IThe Durham Nuclear Awareness group has stated that Ontario Hydro is tbreatening the Ontario government with a huge economic penalty if Bud Wildman supports a proposed new drinking water standard for tritium. The new standard would force Ontario hydro to reduce radioactive tritium emissions from its nuclear station. Hydro fias said the cost of such a plan would be in the billions of ~dollars.
