More than 30 head of cattie were led ouit of the'barn into a, nearby pasture affecting no injury to the animias. The firefighters directed their efforts to the adjoining buildings. On Tuesday, December 6 the Orono Kinsmen Silhouettes held their first Christmas Recital. The intermediate group started the show by; "wowing the crowd" with their funky dance/twirl routine to the Ray Charles tune MHit The Road Jack". The senior girls René Picco and :Tracy Phillips had choreographeti their own duet to "Rock Around The Clock". Unfortunately René was absent due to stomach flue but in the true spirit of great sportsmanship Tracy madie some hast minute revisions and performed a solo that everyone enjoyed. Good Work Tracy! We missed you René, get well soon! Finally the beginners group chargeti their family and frientis with their adorable dance/twirl routine to- the "Under The Sea" music from The Little Mermaid. During the year the girls had sold tickets for a Christmas Basket. After the show they had the draw and the basket was won by Dave Morrison of Orono. Seller of the winning ticket was Shawna Maye and she also received a gift. Next the group presented their instructors Trish Scholz and Christy Jordan with a Christmnas Gift. At the end of the night everyone enjoyed Christmnas treats adrefreshments. The Orono Kinsmen Silhouettes are taking a Christma.s break now but will be back practising at the Orono Town Hall on January 10, 1995. Raffle winners Hospice Durham 'Me winners of the Hospice Durhamn raffle were: Quilt - Sally Lloyd of Newcastle; Wood Carving - Rosemnary Byat, Bowmanville and Folk Art - Erin Robertson, Oshawa. A total of $1,188.00 was realized from the raffle. Hospice Oshawa is a non-profit community-based in home volunteer programn that provides trained volunteers to support individuals and their families facing a life-threatening illness. Osteoporosis program to start An Osteoporosis exercise program will commence January 24th, 1995. Classes will bc held at the YWCA- in Oshawa. Registration begins December l2th. SAGA plans for Ganaraska Watershed Report Card The Save the Ganaraska Again (SAGA> organization is planning to develop a Ganaraska Water- shedi Report Card for a portion of the watersheti in the Municipality of Clarington. At their meeting last Wednes- day the group set a date for a workshop to be held in January outlining the objectives and guidelines for such a Report Card. The Watershed report card would involve an area from west of the Oshawa Ski Hill and north to the stream east of Kendal. Al water courses in this particuhar area would be part of the study. In speaking with Elva Reidi of SAGA she said the Report Card would fit in well with the proposeti Watershed Study that is to be undertaken by, the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority. Les Stanfield, a fish biologist with the Ministry of Natural Resources has spoken to the SAGA group concerning such a untiertaken for the Report Card. Stanfielti is also a member of FISH (Fishermen Involved In Saving Habitat). It is expecteti that Stanfiehd will be involveti in the SAGA project. He did assist with two report cards in Prince Edward County this past summer. Elva Reid also pointed out that SAGA now had the time to undertake such a task and bas funding that bas been made available to SAGA by Dupont and was presented recently by Davidi Climenhage of Dupont. The monies represented $3,000 in Canadian funds. Les Stanfield bas inforrned SAGA that a report card is for educating purposes and is not meant for resolving planning issues. A Watersheti Report Card is a new concept which recognizes there is a neeti for a common tool for ordinary people whîch will educate them about the watersheti. There are four levels with the bronze level being mainly mapping and will identify environmentally sensitive areas and will make a comparison with existing assessments. The Silver level would identify problem areas and start monitoring tools. The Gold level advances the program with a greater emphasis on hum.an management. Through the process water sources would be identified as would dis charge and recharge, areas. There would be mapping of p lant and animal communities. The report card would contain- information relating to alI environmental aspects. Hope rejects a $3500 request Hope township council bas rejecteti taking part in funding the Greenway Node's steering committee. Port Hope, Cobourg, Hamilton and Hope Townships were to share by granting $3500 each for tourism anti recreation purposes as a node on the waterfront trail. Hope has objected to the committee choosing Lakeshore Road as the route for the trail tbrough Hope and are suggesting that Highway No. 2 bx, allocated for such a purpose. Upgrades of $1.7 million for five area scho-ols The Northumberland- Clarington Board of Education will have a. budget of $ 1.7 million for upgrades for area schools. The major portion of the budget will bc spent in the eastern sector of the system for upgrades. $ 175,000 is to be spent on the Bowmanvile parking lot. The fetieral, provincial governments and the school boards will share equally in the costs of die projects.
