Town Hall packed for Concert Band Christmas Music event The Clarington Concert Band presented their Christmas Concert in the Orono Town Hal on Thursday evening of last week with a packed crowd in attendance. The band bas been in operation for the past two years and on Thursday was out in force - thirty-two strong. The program was most varied for the occasion starting witb a Hymn For Band and followed by a March, a cornet and flute solo and a vocal rendition of the Christmas Song by Sandra Enutain. Possibly the most stirring numbers of the evening bad to be .March and Procession frarn Bacchus" and the rendition offered by the Band "Phantom of the Opera selections" The audience did enjoy the Christmas Singalong and the other Christmas selection by the band. An arrangement of Big Band Selections moved right along for both the players and the audience. The perfomance ability of the band han greatly improved over the short time that they have been in existence Christmas Seals stili in vogue and stili much in need A lot bas changed since Chris tmas of tbe 1900s. The Cbristmas Trees are as apt to corne from a factory as from a forest and nutcrackers have given away to electronic gamnes that now fil children's stockings. But one tbing hann't cbanged and that is Cbristmas Seals. The colourful seal can stili be found on cards and packages eacb year. They corne in tbe millions. Their purchase is still the leading source of funds for the figbt on lung disease. The lung Association bas mailed the 1994 Christman Seal packages to some 3.5 million homes ini Ontario including the 1 30,000 in Durhamn Region. 'Ibis year the campaign aires for $5 million from across Ontario for programs to combat asthma, emphysema, lung cancer and other formns of lung disease. More resources are desperately needed. In recent years the deatb rate from lung,, cancer bas increased drama-- tically. On the other hand donations througb the Seals ban been declining as more and more donors feei squeezed by tbe recession. Every dollar counits said local Lung Association, president Carolyn Greer. "Please give whatever you can - it al belps". If you haven't received a Christmnas Seal package and would. like £0 support the campaign caîl the Lung Association in Oshawa at (90-5) 436-1046.
