"Christmas Faith" Peace on Earth Brushing aside the glitz and glaniour that always exists at the Christmas season the message surely is one of Peace on Earth Goodwill to Al Men. The message should be as strong today as ever before on this planet for with ail the effort we stili aefaced with the problem of mankind living together in harmony. The simple act of sharing and caring as brought to us at the birth of Christ - "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men" - has still to be realized as borne out by the carniage of war and strife that persist around the world. As individuals we do play a part starting in our homes, in our community, in our country and ultimately throughout the world. There is much to be accomplished in the society of manldnd and the Christmas season is one timne to at least give some focus on the message and to plant a seed to develop for the future. There is hope and must be hope and as familles gather for the merriment of this season, an expression, that could be magnified throughout the year in a searchfor Peace On Earth. Let there be peace. To ail a merry and happy Christmas. Ontario Hydro investigates cause of pipe Pienre Charlebois, director of Uic Pickering nuclear generating station, bas said it could be a couple of wccks before investigators are sure why a pressure relief pipe burst at Uic Pickering plant, flooding the inside of a domed reactor building and forcing the utility to close down tbrce of its eigbt umits. Charlebois states that there are many possible reasons for Uic pipe to crack but Uiat Uic priniary reason for the split may bc to excessive vibration caused by pressure sbift. He said it was most certaiy not due to aging plumbing i the New public sehool for Newcastle (Continucd from page 1) separated by a conridor from one prescbool activity room and a scbool play/activity room. There arc separate washrooms for Uic kindergarten students and as well a fenced in outdoor play area. 1In ic main two storey portion of Uic building there wili be four classrooms along Uie side of Uic gym/general/purpose room. The gym will have a stage bursting 21 year old plant. He said the vibration that it was subjected te durig Uic valve opcning was probably beyond <what was expected for that kind of surface. "It is possible we have a design problema". Charlebois said the leak caused the plants emergency ,oolant injection system to kick in, in sending massive quantities of purified lake water into the reacter. It could be from tbree to four months before Uic reactor can bc brougbt back into service. The other two units affectcd and closed down are expected to bc started up within a month. mcorporated in Uic plans. There havýe been ailowances for two expandable classrooms in botli levels of Uic school. Room dividers can bc rolled back to enlarge Uic rooms. An elevator is also icorporated in Uic building with access to thc stage level and Uic second storey of Uic building. A community kitchen is also incorporatcd in tbe school near the stage area. The main office for administration is located on Uic first floor as is the iibrary, resource and computer rooms. 1The second storey calîs for Sidney Pierpont was a failure at every livelibood he attempted. He failed as a school teacher, as a lawycr. as a politiciati, as a businessman, as a clergyman. H1e bad one great Iasting succcss. He wrote the song 'Jingle Relis'. This simple song, wbich describes a winter-timc deight, is one of thc most well known songs in the world and has lightened Uic bearts of millions of people It's memorable. Itfs effective. The Song of Mary, the Magnificat, is aiso a very memorable and powerful song. This is the song that Uic mother of Jesus sings when she is visiting her cousin Elizabeth. So powerful is this song Uiat it is one of Uic few parts of Uic Bible that certain rulers have actually banned from being broadcast on radio or television. It is powerful because it is a song of faith. Mary first of ahl expresses her faith in a God wbo bas touched ber life. She is a teenage girl from an ordinary family i a rural community. But God bas made it clear to ber that Ood knows ber, csteems ber and wants to include ber in the working out of the divine purpose. Such an experience of the creator, controller, or caregiver of al Uings knowing, valuing and helping me, me wbo am so insignificant besides God, me who bave so many failures and so few achievements, such an experience always brings joyful faith. 'My soul tells out the greatness of the Lord, my spirit lias rejoiced in God My saviour; for lielias looked witlifavour on lis servant, lowly as slie is.' There is another side to Marys faith, however, Mary knows that if God bas sbown sucb esteem such kindness and mercy to ber, then, this is God's attitude to everyone. In consequence, we are to be appreciative, caring and just towards God, other people and eigbt classrooms along witb a teachers' room and storage facilities for the level. The scbool features viewig windows both for students and aduits wbich give visual entrance intothe gym and tothe outdoors in the kindergarten section. Mr. Wülsber bas said that Uic vertical windows will ailow for a lot of light to enter Uic scbool. When asked if the Town and the School Board migbt share ia community/scbool library Mr Willsher said there was only a thece month window left for Uic consideration. It was doubtful there migbt be a shared facility. I speakig with Mr. Wilisher about sharing facilities be said this was happening in Edmonton where bigh scbools, public schools, swimming pools, libraries and some other faiities are ail being located on Uic sanie property and it was bis opinion that this must bring, about considerable savings. by Mervyn Russeli the natural environment. This is the positive life style that gqes along with faith in God. At the saineUie, faith in God also causes us to resist what God opposes - the conceit of status, the brutality of migbt, the grccd of riches. The conceit that despises. degrades, dominates over others because of an assumed superiority. The brutality that seeks to impose its wil and break ail opposition by the use of destructive force. The greed that is committed to growing richer even at the expense of others growing poorer. The song of Mary expresses faith in a God wbo cannot stand such iniquities. A God who undermines them, destabilizes them and causes them to collapse. A God who causes the downfall of ail who are committcd to such practices and building such systems and who provides opportuniies for thim to be replaced with better alternatives. 'He lias shown the miglit of his arm, He lias routed the proud and ail their scliemes; He lias brought down monarclisfrom their tlirones, And raised on higli the lowly.' We have seen dramatic examples of these transformations ini our time, most notably with the collapse of the Soviet empire and the removal of apartheid in South Africa. The improvement of the rights of women in many countries can be seen i the sanie way whether these developments lead to tic establishing of truly more appreciative caring and just socialies, remainis to be seen. The song of Mary is about tic God who is coming most clearly and closely, fuily and freely, ini the life of the child she is bearing, Jesus, the Christ. The song of Mary expresses a faith as deep as the soul and as wide as the world. But what else would we expect of faith in God? -.j ORONO, ONTARIO lèlefloia St. Saviour 's Anglican Church MILL STREET ORONO, ONTARIO Interlm Minister: Rev.
