Whien asking about the origin of the name Mrs. Luetz-Smitb said it was one of ber favourite flowers and she bas always bad the name in mind for when sbe opened ber own business. Forget Me Nots offers one-of- a kind clotbing outfits including wedding dresses and curtains. Mrs. Lucas-Smith said sbe is open for pecople's ideas and does do custom work. The owner said she bas been sewing from the age of eight years and tbe inspiration to sew came througb her grandmotber. The shop at the present time is open- Tuesday tbrougb to Saturday and also souls dried floral arrangements made by Janette McLean of Orono. Sidewal snow removal program continues, drop invoices for 1994 Clarington town council bas cancelled aIl outstanding invoices over snow removal for the 1993- 94 winter season at its meeting on January 9tb. The issue bas been a point of contention since last year wben invoices were sent out for s idewalk snow removal that had- been undertaken by the toiwn where residents had failed to remnove the snow. Under its current by-law 9314, walkways must be cleared of snow within 12 hours of a snowfall by property owners wbose lands front on them. The problems arose over problemas in the billing system. In some cases, people were being billed for walkways covered over by snowplows after their walks bad already been cleared. One local resident Lloyd Stepbenson, Newcastle, bas been particutarly irate over this issue. In January of 'last year bhis sidewalk was partially filled in by a snowplow after it bad been cleared. According to Stepbenson, the contractor woring for the town to clear the snow pusbed the snow and packed it into a two-incb layer on bis walkway. For thîs be was billed $36.51 by the town, he said. Stephenson felt there was no need for bis walk to be cleared of snow after a neigbbour had u ndertaken the work. He appeared before council on (Continued page 2) Judicial recount favours Mackesey Cecil Mackesey was given the award of being the third separate school trustee by a judical recount on Thursday of last weck. Mr. Mackesey and Mrs. Donna Lucas-Astley were tied after the election on Novemnber l4th. The decision on Thursday was the second recount to favour the election of Mr. Mackesey for the third trustee position in the Peterborough Victoria Northum- berland and Clarington Separate Scbool Board. 1The recent Icount on Thursday gave Mr. Mackesey a one vote majority over Donna Lucas- Astley. The recount involved a decision on seven ballots and took no more dma two bours to complete. It bas been said that two ballots are stili of concern and that a fifteen day period is available to take the issue to the Ontario Court, General Division. Of the two ballots in dispute on hasa word written on the front while the other bas a word written on the back. The separate school board provided legal counsel for botb parties for the judicial recount. The first recount was undertaken by the Municipality of Clarington. Mîd-Term report cards to provide more info Students and parents can expeot somne change in the report cards wMthin the Northumberland- Clarington Board of Education systemn. The mîd-term report cards will be in tbe bands of students and parents shortly after tests later thîs month.
