Dufferin Aggregate Tykes win 'A' Finalist in Manvers Dufferin Aggregate Major Tykes made a stupendous show at Manvers, Minor Hockey Association Tri-County 'C' toumnament lhelti in Manvers on Saturday, January 7 bringing home the 'A' Finalist trophy. Despite heavy snowfall Friday night, Dufferin made the trip for the early start in the opening gaine against the hometewn teamn, in which Kyle Johnston (#14) earned the shutout for Dufferin. Doug Garlick (# 11) openeti the scoring with assist from Josb Moffat (#7) at the midpoint of the first perioti. At 4:37, Garlick scoreti Dufferin's second marker unassisted. Midiway the second period Garlick earnet i te hat trick again off Josh Moffat (#7), giving Dufferin a 4-0 leati. A minute later Evan Moore (#9) scored off passes fromn Ryan Campney (#5) anti Chris Boyce (#4). Goal number 6 came minutes later by Evan Moore from in, close off passes from Campney andi David Landinan (#17). The only goal of the game came with 1:53 remaining when Doug Garlick (#1 1) made a pass to Chris Boyce (#4) sentiing hum away. Boyce went at the net, swung left at the last second, andi depositeti the puck in the corner hie had just pulled away from. Eleven seconds later, Kyle Johnston (#14), who recordeti his second shut-out of the day, swept the puck out of his crease just before- one of the Oshawa forwartis got to it, preserving the win. With 12 seconds left on the dlock, Mark Kelly (#8) shot from his own end te dlear the puck and rattled the puck off tbe post of Oshawa's empty net. Chris Boyce (#4) was selecteti as Orono's recipient of the "Best Effort Award" for the gaine.- In the final- contest of the tournament which decidedthte 'A' Champions, Dufferin came up against stiff opposition in Oshawa Redi Wings of the L.N.HI-. You make the hometown proud! First Goal of the Season Evan Moore (#9) Evan scored his first goal on October 21. Evan is always an offensive threat to Dufferin's opponents. Loaded with Christmas bounty, Orono's Pineridge Atoms, beaded for the Parkwood Rotary Little N.H.L. Tournament in Oshawa. The tournament was held over the Christmas holidays, starting December 27 and Championship games finisbing on December 29. Gaine time started- at 11:00 a.m., with Orono feeling slightly dismembered as Jake Bonnetta, Kevin Pritchard were absent and J.P. Pisani on the injury list with a fractureti anle. A call-up te Tyler Gregg and several great saves by #30 Jeff Slemon helped ease some of the pressure off the downsized teain, but the pressure was to higb as the Blackhawks defeateti Orono 6--0. Rick Howe #15, received M.V.P. for bis efforts in this gaine. Pinerige also played penalty free in this game, making thein eligible for an Esso Award. Orono, looking. more coinfortable on the ice, made thein second gaine a challenge for the Willowdale team. Willowdale lead the majority of this gaine 2-0 until late in the third when #19 Aaron Robinson made Willowd?.le sweat, assisteti by #112 Scott Woods, to up the score 2-1. The team worked bard to even the score but it wasn't in the cards with the final score ending 2-1 for Willowdale. Goal keeping didn't go unnoticed as #30 Jeff Siemon received the M.V.P. award. Game three showed the, team tired and a littie dowýn with two losses, (a new feeling for a team with one loss out of 15 games) but #9 Aaron Robinson managed to find a break in the third with an unassisted goal to make the final score 6-1 for the Redwings. Jeff Siemon, #30 again received M.V.P. for his efforts in this game. December 28, day two of the tournament, had Pineridge on the ice at 9:00 a.m. against the Canadians. Orono's Pineridge Atoms were in sink with the return of #7 Jake Bonnetta. The teamwork was outstanding as wben #16 D.J. Boardinan passed tO 1#9 Aaron Robinson, wbo found #11i Tyler Gregg ready for the fred and a place to put it, givmng Orono an early lead 1-0. Late in the first, #17 Jake Bonnetta assisted #15 Rick Howe in letting Orono breath a littie, making the score 2-0. The Canadians managed a goal in the last seconds of the first, but that was where the scoring stopped, as Pineridge played a great defensive gaine te bold the score 2-1 for Orono. Shawn DeJong #12 received the M.V.P". for his efforts ini this gaine. Gaine Fi ve for Orono provided the teain with the rare opportunity to watch their team (as few as tbey were) from both sides of the ice, while Orono battled the Bruins and the Refs, to a 4-2 loss. Both goals for Orono were scored by #15 Ricky Howe, assi sted by # 16 D.J.' Boardman, #6 Mike Knapp and #19 Aaron Robinson. Finals, held at Children's Arena, had Orono against Willowdale once more for the Minor Atoin "C" Championship. Orono looked strong and played well, only giving up one goal in the first. The second period belonged to Orono as they pounded the net to get three goals. Willowdale came back in the third, but great goalie and defensive work kept the score te 3-2 for Orono. Orono goals scored by #14 Nick Lucyk, #6 Mike 'Knapp (unassisted) and #12 Scott Woods (wearing #8). Two assists by #3 Chris Bouley and an assist for #17 Johnny Halik and #9 Aaron Robinson. Wearing the captain's shirt, Aaron Robinson accepted the Minor Atom "C" Championship trophy for Pineridge. Jacob Bonnetta #7 received the M.V.P. for his efforts ititis gane. ibis game was also played penalty fiee. Add another shut-out to lf30 Jeff Slemon's season. Friday night Orono's Pineridge Atom's played a mixer game with the Orono Atom Leafs te cap the week off. Get rid of ail cigarettes in the bouse a nd at work as well as shoving out the ash trays and anything that makes, one think of smoking. At first stay away from people that smoke. If you get stressed take a walk or sit back and take some deep breathing - its better than a cigarette by far. Now the fun part. Give yourself a pat on the back and instead of stopping to but another pack of cigarettes reward yourself for flot smoking with the purchase of a new CD tape, book or magazine.
