( o- orono W..kly Times, W.dnesday, Fobruary O, 1905 Celebrate SOth Wedding Anniversary On November 19, 1994 the families of Carl and Margaret Todd came to the bouse in surprise witb a fuil course turkey dinner, to celebrate the upcoming 501h Anniversary (Dec 9) and the 8th Birthday of Carl (Nov. 29). The event was early as we spen t those days on a sunny warmn holiday in Florida. Many thanks to the faniily and also for aIl the cards we received. Four generations of the Todd Family- Pictured are the four generations of the Todd family, father Carl, son Bruce, grandson Volunteers ready to walk the beat Somne eighty people have been chosen from a list of 100 hopefuls to volunteer time under the Neigbbourhood Police Services program that is to operate out of a store front in the Oshawa Mail. The civiian volunteers are under tbe supervision of Constable Jef Gibson. The volunteer cannot make arrests but can answer questions, write reports and act as liaison between the public and police. The volunteers will work a minimum four hour shift eacb montb at the store front placement. Most volunteers would have liked to have had more tirne. Must cut staff, close beds The Ajax/Pickering hospital blames the Rae government in that tbey will likely be forced to cut 55 staff and close 25 beds due to a short fail in operating costs. Jamie and great-grandson Nicholas- The hospital recently com- pleted a $30 million expansion that doubled its size. The irony is that $1 .5 million of the operating debt and the $6 million expansion debt is attributed to the expansion plans. Saved $â18,000 in 18 months It bas been reported that Northumberland County and the province saved $3 18,000 over the last 18 months due to the efforts of a welfare fraud investigator. The investigator, hired by the province, bas saved an amount above what was expected. No thrill with proposed name The Greenway Node Co- ordinating committee had chosen the name Ganaraska Heritage Shbores to depict the lakefront communities of Port Hope, Hope and Cobourg through whicb the Heritage trail is to pass. But putting the proposed 'st it was found that name to the ' Utht mucb interest. it did flot hoké Pine Ridge §,hores settled in as the most favoured name for the area and one that might, attract tourism to the area from fields as far off as western Ontario. Leave Development committee The Town of Port Hope is the second municipality to leave the Diamond Economic Development Commission. Tbe Town voted recently to go it alone rather than continue as a member of the Diamond Triangle. Hope Township bas also dropped out of the Commission. it leaves only Hamilton Township and the Town of Cobourg involved in joint commission. Port Hope was paying $58,000 as a member of the commission. Social contract restriets negotiations Sixty-four percent of Durham secondary teachers voted in favour of a new contract that is effective from September 1, 1993 through to August 3 lst, 1996. The board bas had to trim $4 million from its budget during the life of the contract which expires as of April 1, 1996. The teachers' negotiating chairperson said the action of the Rae government made it absolutely atrocious to try to negotiate with both feet and hands tied bebind their backs. Gets free building permit 1The Port Hope hospital bas been granted a free building permit by the Town of Port Hope in the amount of $4,500.00. The hospital is installing a new air-exchange system for its operating room and improvemetits to the electrical system. The total cost is set at $727,000 of which sixty percent will be paid by the province with the remainder by the hospital board. World Premiere Arbour Festival "The Baby Blues ", a new comedy will receive its world premiere at Peterborough's Arbour Festival on February 21 of this year. It's a brand new comedy by Drew Hayden Taylor, a former resident of Curve Lake and wbo has had considerable success in writmng plays over the past number o years. The play runs until March 5th. On Wednesday, February 8th starting at 6:30 p.m. a tbree hour long aerobic dance-a-thon event is being held at the Life Style Healtb and Fitness-Club, 164 Baseline Road East, Bowman- ville. Funds raised through the event are to be donated to the fund-raismng fund. February Il its a Sweetheart Skate at the Enniskillen Conservation Area. Funds from the concession bootb go to the Heart and Stroke fund. February 18 a dance at Wilmot Creek with a 50-50 draw and spot prizes.
