Kamin spoke of an agreement being reached on two occasions between Mosport staff and Clarington staff but agreement to the conditions were not accepted by council. The North Clarington Rate- payers Association brought their concerns to the meeting reeognizing that the zoning did allow music concerts . Noise was considered as one of the greater concerns of the citizens who called on the municipality to cause an Environmental assessment prior to the issuing of a licence. Lt was noted that the municipality noise by-law in which it is stated that no person shall cause or permit noise that was likely to disturb inhabitants of the municipalîty. t was stated that- Mosport did have a exemption as far as auto raemng was concerned but not for music concerts. t was feit that if residents objected to the noise level then the municipality must enact the noise by-law. The ratepayers called for no exemption when issuing a Iicensing of any concert in Mosport. Lt was also suggested that such erowds of 50,000 could take up to six hours to vacate the premises and block ail roads in the area. Concerns were also expressed as far as the environment was concerned and the maintaining of the attributes of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It was stated that police protection -was inadequate both at Strawberry Fields in 1970 and again in following music events. The group said it was ridiculous that Mosport should operate a hot line for complaints and suggested that this should be handled by the municipality. Bill Stockwell, who chaired the meeting, wilL prepare a report that will bc presented to council in the near future. Those involved in the debate will be informed when the report will be presented to council. This day and age -With the recent announcement that Clarington may become a mecca centre for Fusion Energy the subject became a matter of discussion at coffee break in the back of the office. My knowledge on kinetic energy and the difference between fission and fusion is somewhat restricted. But coffee break companion Bll Bunting has always held an interest in the sciences down through the years a.nd 1 have often heard refèrences to Scientific American and other journals that keep one abreast of the recent developments in the scientific world. As a result Bill became a real source of information on the- Fusion process to bring me up to speed on this wonder, that could be sometime in the future, the world's source of energy. Not only that but Bll is also a' computer buff far beyond the. limited knowledge I have, even though, the Orono Times today is generally the result of output from theApple Computer and Quark/Xpress prograin. Our friend is hooked into E- Mail and Internet and most recently speaks of CD Rom and the awesome content or this program. To be sure within a day of the announcement of Canada's bid to break into the Word Fusion program and the possibîlity that it may come to Clarington Bill Bunting arrived with a ten foot computer print out outlining just what Fusion, was, the developmcnt stages and the hopcd for break ihrough to use fusion as a step towards dcveloping energy. Enough about the scicntific world it will work itsclf out over what ever period of timc h usakcs to do so. Carlos Tamblyn There are those people one remembers for the part they have pl ayed in their community and Carlos Tamblyn who passed away recently was one of- those individuals who was involved in many factors of the Orono community. Down through the years he has given support to his church, the Agricultural Society, the Holstein Association, the Horticultural Society and of course die Orono Band. It was with the latter group, the Orono Band, that 1 had my closest contact with Carlos and became well aware of the commitment he held and the energy he gave to those organi zations in which he was involved., I sat to dhe left of Carlos in the cornet section for a good many, years at weekly practices and the many engagements and I must say many bars of music of Colonel Bogey, The Thin Red Line and selections from the Will Huf and Bennet band books. It was an experience I always enjoyed and one I- shaîl neyer forget. Both the music andi Carlos were part of this experience andi this enjoyment. I amn sure he felt the same way and music was a bg part of bis life. 1 know Carlos would have loved to have been a part of the prescrnt concert band in Orono andi knowing his love for band music 1 have often wished he had been a memnber. t was most fitting that at his funcral service at the Orono United Church that his choir sang and that the band provideti a brass quintette. t was an honour to ho part of thc quintette andi it did move emotions. We stili play Colonel Bogey in the concert band so Carlos will neyer be forgotten. Can expeet Music concerts at Mosport (Continued from page 1) issue of zoning andi licensing. Dennis Hefferon saiti that a middle roati agreement must be found because to battle on would only become most costly. Bernie Kamin saiti Mosport had already spent $200,000 on court costs and lost hundretis of thousands having to withdraw events that coulti have taken place at Mosport had an agreement been settleti between tie two parties. Bemie Kamin said Mosport wanted to be used the same as any other business would be deait with. Kamin said Mosport intended to hold a Country and Western music feature with a Trans Am event at the track on May24th. He also noteti that a Rock and Roll concert is also to bc featureti with a Sports Car event on August 12 andi 13. He said they would like to holti three music events this year two within the limits of 50,000 people and a third with unlimiteti attendance. It was mentioneti that 1996 was the twenty-fifth anniversary of Strawberry Fieltis held at Mosport and that a promoter has indicateti an interest in the return of the event this year. Kamin said it would likely be held in July but nothing was yet firm as to the proposal. Bemnie Kamin saiti Mosport found no difficulty in meeting the conditions of the licensing by- law. In anticipation of a crowd of 50,000 it was estimatcd that 25,000 might camp over at Mosport within a fenced enclosure andi according to Bernie Kamin ail facilities would bc provided to meet health regulations.
