How many times bave I beard this said and yes, even said it myseif. But ià bas a diffeent meaning to me. In the past years as I've been "out and about" shopping, arena, working or just out for a coffee, somneone would ask bow is your mother? Is your dad any better? It seems like sucb a little thing te say but it bas meant a lot to me and my family. If I lived in thse city and went for a walk (if I dared) or some other errand, no one would know I existed as I ru shed by witb not even an acknowledgement or eye contact witb them.< Here, ini my little village I even got the odd hug or tap on the shoulder which is nice to receive wben things are becoming a bit bard te bare. .rve received cookies from my neigbbour and ber little girl, offers of belp te drive me te the ho spital, -phone cals and invites to supper, much support front my husband and daugbters and wben least expeeted a bouquet delivered te my door with 'Thinldng of You" on it or a cake, pie, casseroles, etc. fromn friends. These many acts of kindness and caring bave been happening ever since my parents becamne il. Tbat's wbat living in a small town is - it isn't the gossip (whieb is everywhere), petty every day occurrences that permeate our days and nights. It's the caring and feeling we leamn to communicate to one mnother at these times that let us know we are not alone and our community cames about us.
