The affordable housing project gives women and children in abusive and violent relationships a place to go when escaping these situations. Dufferin Aggregates takes BRHL tournament During tbe March Break, Dufferin Aggregate Major Tykes participated in BRHL tourney hockey sponsored by Harvey's/Swiss Chalet in Bowmanville, and brought home the BIG WIN. In the flrst gaine, the opposing team, was Kedron parkwhose tiny but terrific netrninder was the only bulwark in an otherwise one- side affair. Dufferin's shooters swarrned Kedron's net in waves, capping the 10-0 shutout for Kyle Johnston wbo could only pray for action. Josh Moffat took the limelight in earning his first goal of the season, unassisted. Goal scorers of the gaine: Evan Moore, Doug Garlick, Ryan Campney (2), Michael Fuller, Chris Boyce (2), Garret Wood, Josh Moffat, Mark Kelly. Assists eamed: Mark Kelly, Josb Moffat, Brent Vanstone, Evan Moore, Justin Caruana, Chris Boyce, Michael Fuller. Gaine two against Rotary Club earned Dufferin's netminder, Kyle Johnston, another shutout la a 2-0 finish. Dufferin enjoyed a faster pace with a team of comparable skill, the first goal not scored until late in the second period. In the net, Kyle Johnston earned recognition for outstanding netminding acumen. Joseph Staples and Michael Fuller both stood out for their good stick checking throughout the gamne. Goal scorers: Evan Moore from Mark Kelly and Doug Garlick fromn Chris Boyce. Dufferin met Poulton Insurance who travelled from Markdale in gaine three, again earning the 5-1 win in a netmninders' carnival which kept the fans hopping in the stands. Still high'from his first gamne performance, Josh Moffat sped around the rink like a blazing firebaîl. David Landman was in deep throughout the gamne, forechecking and creating turnovers. Garrett MacDonald stuck with hus check refusing to give skating room to Poulton's offence. Goal scorers: Mark Kelly, Doug Garlick, Evan Moore (2) and Chris Boyce. Assists earned in the gamne- Chris Boyce and Mark Kelly. Game four was the 'A' Final la which Dufferin met their nemesis SoundMaster DJ. Taking the win, 4-2 Kyle Johnston captured the hearts of the fans by back stopping bis teammates in the championship win. Chris Buttonshaw revealed his developing talents as a tearn player who appears alrnost invisibly la the right place to keep the play alive. Brent Vanstone enjoyed a good gaine as a skater creating scoring opportunities. Mike Fuller show cased his strong ability as a penalty killer when the garne was stili on the line. Goal scorers for Dufferin: Garret Wood (assist: Doug Garlick), Justin Caruana, Chris Boyce (2). Momns & Pops Faîl Woefully Short 199-3 Under the cultivated coaching skill of Lori Caruana and Krys Garlick, Dufferin Major Tykes fattened up their stats on St. Patrick's Eve in a game which highlighted the ineptitude of their momns and pops. Led by the Buttonshaw Clown, the Momns and Pops stumbled around the rink, occasionally tripping over Joe's brassiere hoîster which hung low and heavy. Tiger Staples was unable to concentrate on the gaine as tie was frequently distracted by Pussycat Staples whose finesse caught his admiring eye. Despite playing four goaltenders at a time, with "Red Light" Garlick playing the position from behind the twine, the Momns and Pops failed to make the game anything but a circus. Double Zero Campney slept away the early part of the game,. only to require copious quantities of mineral water to refresh herself for the latter part of the gamne. A battle of Moores ensued throughout the contest, with Lovely Linda and Energetic Erin harrassing the enigmatic Evan. Indeed, the only element of grace and" finesse which emerged fromn the moins and pops revealed itself in the female dimension! The game was further characterized by the rare refereeing of three brothers of The Pet Magazine The word bas corne up the pipe tbat 1 bave ten minutes to write "Promn Around Home" if we intend te rneet the press deadline. .At times tbis can be accomplished if the mind fumcions as it should but at other limes there cornes a mental block and dîme drags on and on past the urne limit. What can I say about the news of late in tbe Orono Times. Is the Timnes developing into a Pet Magazine with the struggles of life and death between the chickens and the dogs, the whale_ and its offspring and as mentioned this week the, going back a number of rnonths, tbe harnpster. Now we are not complaining and do realize that pets are worshipped by their owners as they should be. Judy Leek mentions that "Sampson" and "Helen" are both victims of their station in life which is certainly true of all life. We take our chances being on this earth. The incidents north of Orono of late brings to mind the days that the Forrester backyard did resound from the crowing of the roosters and the cackle of tbe hens. It ail goes back to Len Pears Dufferin players who crossed the line of fair play into frivolous frolic. One was caught in the crime of holding back a parent. Another tripped grown-ups as they passed by. And, finally in a perplexing move, the third ref carried the puck with his skates into the parents zone, almost making the mark. And, the coup de grace was the moment Dufferin's rookie netminder, Garrett MacDonald, shook up the gaine in a long trek across the span of the rink following which he scored. Michael Fuller (#6) Michael earned his first goal of the season March 10. The most pressing issue for Michael these days: "If I don't get into die NHL, what should I do?" who sparked an interest in chickens for the editor and with the start of a small flock of banties called English Game birds. From here it developed into the larger birds and it seemed that the backyard sprung alive in the days when the chickens would contently peck insects out of the grass and slowly stitil around the the yard. I took sorne enjoyment in watching them and that they did appear to be so content with life. But then entered a dog to the property and you know the rest of the story. Not being able to see the chickens roam tbe yard was a disappoîntment and I could take no interest in seeing the birds caged. I had often wished that the chickens could have relied on trespassing dogs as they did on our own dog but that was flot to be. If they had to bc caged tbey had to go which did corne to pass. The ten minutes aic up - so I hear. Back to Judy Leek - they too, were victims of their station in life.
