The grade five students wbo attend St. Francis went on a class trip, along witb their teaCcer, on Wednesday, Marcb 29 te the large bags of Torita and Potato Chips to Nicholas Boyd from Mrs. McElwain'class, Andrew Burke of Mrs. Ransberry's class and Adam Tolett of Mr. -Noble's ciass. Mr. Dennis Prentice, vice- principal of the school and co- ordinator of the program was present for the presentation. .----------.---- .....-........... Monsignor Cleary Catholic School in Courtice to see a production of the play called "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". The students were overwheimed-witb the play and were reluctant to leave when it was time to return te St. Francis of Assisi. On Saturday, March 25, the Newcastle Golf Tykes met the Grafton Tykes on the ice in Bewdiey. Both teanis played their hearts out trying to be the victors for this was not only the last game of the season but it was also for the championship. When' it was -ail over the Newcastle Golf solving program. The group were accompanied by Mr. Denis Prentice, vice-principle and co- ordinator of the solving program. Tykes were pronounced the champions' with the winmig score of 6 - 0. A big Thank Ynu goes out to everyone who made this year the GREAT SUCCESS it turned out to be! To celebrate their recent victory the Newcastle Golf Tykes, along with their fathers had a night of fun at our own local arena on Thursday, March 30. After skating everyone had worked up an appetite and were treated, to pizza and pop. Alil the boys who were on the Newcastle Golf Tykes teamn would like to say Thank You to their coaches and everyone else who took the time and effort in teaching and helping them to win the chanipionship! Aduit art classes are being offered at the St. Francis of Assisi Catbolic School in Newcastle by Mrs. Sigrid McDowell. The classes will cost from $1 - $4 when you purchase your own materials. The Living Praise Singers were the speciai musical guests at the Crossroads Christian Assembiy, located at 978 Mili Street North in Newcastle, on Sunday, April 2. Their guest speaker was Rev. Betty An Orono resident seeks a reimbursement from the town in the amount of $200.00. Para 1Hodgson claim-s that a tree iocated on Town land, biew over durin-g a windstorm and destroyed ber fence. She is concerned over thec danger this involved, as ber son had been playing in their backyard where the tree fell only minutes before. The $200.00 is the deductible that Mrs. Hodgson was required to pay to have ber fence fixed. The Town is claiming no responsibility for the incident saying that die tree in no way was identifiable as a danger until, it fell. The Town's insurance company, Cowan Insurance, bas disallowed Mrs. Hodgson's dlaim. Mrs. Hodgson has expressed a concern over this, feeling that the' Town should be responsible for the upkeep of its green spaces. it was pointed out that there are so many green spaces in Clarington that it would be impossible to inspect them ail for hazardous trees. Residents share in the responsibiity to inform tie Town of sucb trees.
