I the first period, Mark Kelly was stopped on a break-away by the end-of-shift buzzer. Shortly after, Doug Garlick was also foiled on a good scoring opportunity. Justin Caruana, in bis usual manner, played sound defence covering is 'nan' as well as skating bard and setting up tie play. Meanwhile, Josh Moffat was ernploying some aggressive forechecking in Soundinaster's zone. As the period closed, Kyle Johnston, in net for Dufferin, made an excellent save to keep the gaine knotted at 0. In the opening seconds of the second, Soundinaster had Dufferin back on their heels as tbey scored their only goal of the gaine 10 seconds into the period on a screened shot. Characteristic of bis seasonal play, Michael Fuller kept to bis man along the boards, and in open ice. At the 6:13 mark, Soundinaster took a slashing penalty, resulting in Dufferin taking advantage of the power play te tie up the score at 4:54. Doug Garlick was sent on the breakaway by Evan Moore. Dufferin - 1; Soundinaster - 1. Late in the second, Garett Wood was stopped on a couple of opportunities by Soundinasters' alert netminder wben lie got away a shot as well as the rebound whicb just failed to connect. With a minute reinaining in the period, Mark Kelly broke away, down the ice, mnade a nice shift on the goalie and slid it under hlm te give Dufferin the 2-1 lead. 'As the third period opened, Garret MacDonald made some nice defensive moves to clear the puck out of bis own teain zone. As the period wore on, Evan Moore continued ho cause hurnovers in the offensive zone and was complimented by Joseph Staples' digging and corner-work in assisting te set up the play. Kyle Johnston made a nice glove save on a high-rising shot keeping Dufferin well in the gaine. The trio of David Landinan, Ryan Campney and Chris Buttonsbaw played an all- for-one, one-for-ali gaine as tbey pressured Soundinaster, moving the puck around their zone as Muskethe'rs toying with a bot croissant. Chris Boyce broke away down the ice -on a fleet-footed rush, only te be stopped just short of the net by the shift-change buzzer. Brent Vanstone was resulted in a goal as Ricky Howe passed ho Sean Dejonge who gave it te Scott Wood for thie shot. The period ended tied 1- 1. The second period opened wihh Aaron Robinson rushing the goalie and good hustle by the lines Halik, Pisani, Bennetta and Beardinan, Knapp andi Howe. Despite this hard work, Crow's scored next te go up 2-1 at 7:54. Orono then turned up the heat and Johnny and the Jakester combineti for a geed chance. t was J.P. Pisani who finally tied the gaine with 27 seconds left, on a pretty deke play. Assists on the goal wenhte Kevin Pritchard andi DJ. Boardinan. The third period was scoreless but it was due ho gooti goaltending in both nets. Chris Beuley took 2 minutes fer hooking at the 12 minute mark, but it w'as Crow's wbo looked like they were short handeti. Jake turned aside as the period wound down on a bard shot that the netmninder just managed to get a piece of. In a dangerous move, Soundmaster pulled their goalie with a full three minutes remaining. Try-as-they-might, Dufferin couldnt get the empty- net insurance goal, while Kyle Johnston stood tati as he turned aside the offensive wave. Dufferin capped a successful season with the 2-1 fmnal win. Congratulations Teain! Bonnetta forced Crow's to give up the puck in their own end which gave Pisani and Halik several chances to score. Crow's then put big pressure on goalie Slemon but he came up big and kept the Crow's at bay. The last 3 minutes were stop time and the play, was up and down the ice. The game ended in a tie and the series continued at 2 p.m. In a 3 gaine short series it is always important to score the first goal and so Orono's Sean Dejonge netted this ever important one at 13:31 of the second. Assists went to Pisani and Halik. Crow's put SOMe pressure on Orono and ended the second period up 2-1. t was almost 3-1 as Crow's broke in on goalie Slemon while short handed but Jeff made the save. Early in the third Aaron Robinson tried an end to end rush but couldn't put the puck past the goalie. Aaron bad another good scoring opportunity as did the shift of Pisani, Knapp and Boardinan, with trne running eut Knapp passed te Boardinan whe got it to Howe just waiting to Put After a fine round robin with only one loss, that te Crow's Sports, the Pineridge Atoins found theinselves in the 'A' final against thein. The best of 3 gaine final was played Sahurday, April 22 at the GB. Rickard Complex in Bowmanville. In gaine 1 ah 10 .m., Orono started out slow with Crow's gethîng first crack at goalie Jeff Stemon. Orono returnet the play with D.J. Boardinan having a good chance off of Mike Knapp's rebo und. Crow's would score first at 12:08 but Orono continueti te press with Christ Bouley's point shot being caught by Crew's goalie, hie was net se lucky on Matt Gregg's shot frein the point which trickled past hum at 8:12. J.P. Pisani hati a good scoring epporhunihy with good second effort work, and Scott Wood almost broke through Crow's defense. Nice passing almost it up over the goalies shoulder te tie the gaine. There was 8:20 left at this point and Dejonge almost put Orono ahcad as he got a crack at the puck in front of the goalie. The last three minutes were tense and Crow's were able to go ahead to stay at 1:50 as their player went through our defense and got the puck past the goalie. This loss put Crow's in the advantage spot with the series geing te a deciding gaine 3. This gamne was geing te be won by the teain with the most hustie and heart. Who wanted it the most? Orono had ended the seasen 10 points a head of their nearest cempetiter and had the best defensive record in round robin play. t was clear that Orono wanted it but so did Crow's. Crow led off the scoring, catchingOrono off guard sconýng in the first minute, of the first face off. Orono's first chance te score went in the net but the ref ruled Ricky Howes goal was after the buzzer and refused to go to the video goal judge. This disallowed goal seemed te spur on the Jakester, the rushin' rocket, Jake Bonnetta who scored 2 goals on the saine shift. Goal 1 assisted by Ricky Howe at 8:20 and goal 2 assisted by Chris bouley at 7:49. Boardinan, Pisani, and Knapp bad chance after chance to score but couldn't put it past the camper in the mwine tent. Orono went up 3- 1 with 1:51 remaining as Rick Howe scored high on the goalie froin Halik and Bouley. Goalie Slemon gave the crowd heart failure at the 10 second mark as he finally froze the loose puck under bis pad to keep Orono 2 goals ahead. Early in the second period, Scott Wood scored Orono's 4th goal from Bonnetta and Pisani. This would be the gaine winner as Orono had te win by 2 goals or score first and win by 1 goal. Orono then went on a scoring spree just like they had in many regular season gaines. Chris Bouley scored a signature point shot goal frein Ricky Howe at 11:05 te put Orono up 5-1. Wîth 9 minutes left in the second, DJ. Boardinan took 2 minutes for hooking but Slemon was on and the penalty killers did a great job. Crow's took 2 late period penalties but Orono couldn't cash in on thein. Crow's last goal came as a result of a defensive error at 13:36 and put the score at 5-2. The scoring storm was flot over for Orono as they notched 2 more late in the third, At 6:02, Boardinan scored the 6the goal fromn Pisani and Howe and Jehnny Halik scored his last goal as an Atoin ah 3:25 froin Pisani. At the sound of the huzzer Orono's Pineridge Atoms became the B.R.H.L. Atoin 'A' Champions by a score of 7-2. t was a well played, sportsman like gaine on both sides and congratulations to Crow's sports on an exciting playoff. The boys and the fans were ecstatic over the win with their coach Paul Henry at the Heini and wish that teain mate Nick Lucyk could have been there with thein. Congratulations to the boys wbo well deserved this award after a great season. They would also like to tbank their coacbing staff of coaches Paul Henry, Rick Howe, Ron Boardinan and Richard Robinson, for their turne and talents this year.
