AIl three levels of the Scouts in Orono are in a desperate situation. Group Committee members are needed as well as leaders for ail three levels. Group Committee members are responsible for recruiting leaders and ensuring that the boys al have a place to meet. They act as helpers and guides for ail the volunteer leaders. Leaders are responsible to ensure that meetings are run smoothly and that the boys are well versed in Scouting. Prospective leaders are given courses to help themn learn what Scouting is about so that they can best help the boys. Uniforms are provided for themn by the Group Commituee. It would be a shame to sec Scouting cease to exist in Orono. The organization teaches young boys about nature and conser- vation as well as values. LOB iMO 983-9679 Travel Talk% with Elizabeth Belanger-L ink lette r C TC THE MANY FACES 0F ISRAEL lsrael is a country of many contrasts, from the beautiful beaches of Eilat in the south to the historical city of Jerusalem, and everything in between. On a recent trip to the country I was amazed to ses what has been dons in a few short ysars to this country they refer to as lsrael. Modern irrigation systems lail in the shadow of the Roman viaduct. Many people think of Israel as a place as pilgrimage, and of course that is what it has been known as for many years. But now you can ses lsraels many faces in many different ways, there are ot course coach tours, but because the whole country is smaller than Prince Edward Island, try a fly/drive trying out some of the kibbutz hotel accommodation. Jeep safaris are a fun and different way of seeing the countryside, you can even taesa camel ride. The historical and religious face of Israel are everywhere, but no where more apparent than in Jerusalem, where East meets West in the Doms of The Rock, the revered Western Wall and the Church of the HoIy Sepuichre. The old cities are asyou would expect with cobblsstones and brick arches and the shop keepers love to barter with you, but be surs you tate along American money. The face of contemporary lsrael shines upon glorious beaches, sophisticated cities, crowds in gleaming mails and on the seafront promenades. This is the trip of a lufe time, enjoy evevy minutes of it.
