ArTsmaRaMva iML1v By Scott Jordison Arts-A-Rama '95 was a delicious evening stimulating the eyes, the ears, and taste buds. The event was an amalgamation of Pine's and Clarke's music and art ail helti together with fabulous sweets. This is the first'year a combined event of this caliber lias been presented. For $3 a head there were two sets of music varying fromn jazz to rock , to solos, and in the midst a chance to browse the students artwork. The monies raiseti from this event are being rolled back into the arts for its own improvement. RANDY REID Sales & Leasing All grades had some of the years best on display. Pine's art class contributed large paper musicians for the evening. The grade nine's worked together to create a floral display, and the grade ten's matie a mural. The seniors took the art they hati been working on over the year and created an env ironmnent for it to be displayed in. Ail involved did an amnazing job. A special thanks to ail the parents that baked goodies, an art form in itself. Here's hoping for many more group art efforts in the near future. The sightings i Ontario are somewhat few and far between with the exception of 1971 when a flock of 30 birds spent the summer along the shore of Lake Ontario. The Bowmanville Marsh, the Oshawa Marsh and Cranberry marsh have ail played a part in visits to Ontario by this bird and now the Port Perry lagoons cari be added. 1Along with the Ibis the lagoons were a stop-over point for many many shorebirds and a flock of 50 Short-Billed Dowitchers were counted, a sizeable number for this shorebird. There was also a large infusion of Tree Swallows, one of the largest we have seen in ages. Perching places on the two hydro wires alongside the lagoons was at a premium anti fliglits to and fro were continuous. The lakefront just west of Newcastle Village brouglit up another rather unusual sighting of a Hlock of 26 Brant geese. This breed of geese were, at one Limec, almost extinct but over the past 40 years are making a comeback. They are now seen in spring migration along Lake Ontario on their way to the far far north. The bird is smaller than a Canada goose and flys in a single line just above the water. This was the case last Saturday just off the shoreline at the construction site1 of the new Regional Water Purification plant west of Newcastle Village. 1 can also report that the, warble rs are in full migration having visited the woods in Prince Edward County and in the Ganaraska. The Rose-Breasted Grosbeak are also in flight and over two days of the week-end I noted five different Scarlet Tanagers. 1When the Indigo Bunting arrives I wil know that the sprmng migration is ail but over and the business of the day for the birds will be the raising of their new famiies. 1 The YMCA Summer Day Camps at the Bowmanville Mail GAMESi GIVEAWAYSI You cati take your childreni arïywhere but they k'eIong at, YMCA 5ummer Pay Campe! t'b a chance to reoibter for orcat YMCA 5um mer Campb iii your arce.
