Bob recalis purchasing one just like it followïng the war and expected that it would bc in use for a goodly number of years. Bob said it was only used two years and was out-dated. In speaking with Murray Paterson of Toms and Sons, Newcastle, it was learned that te sidewalk sale held in Newcastle Saturday was a success. Next Wednesday, the 2lst, there's going to be a camnival held at the Orono Fairgrounds. If's sponsored by the Orono Amateur Athletic Association and al proceeds go to minor sport in the Orono area. There will be rides, games, a 50-50 draw, an d refreshments will be available. Admission is free!! Newcastle Day Barbecue and Show in Orono Memorial Park will be held on- Wednesday, August 28, 1974, starting arounid 3:30 p.m. Newcastle Day a pet project of Mayor Garnet B. Rickard to bring all former municipalities such as Bowmanville, Darlington and Clarke Townships and other hamiets together. It was learned last week that the Departinent of Public Works for the Region of Durham have signed a contract for the construction of the second well to service the Village of Orono and Orono Estates. Gary Cox was a big factor in te double victory registered by the Orono Midgets over Prescott on Sunday. Gary was the winning pitcher of both games on Sunday pitching a total of 16 innings. August 1984 The work crew of the Town of Newcastle Community Ser-vices Department are completing a prograut of streambank stabilization at the Orono Park. Old slabs of sidewalk concrete are being removed and replaced with rubble stone and in places gabion baskets of stone. Stream banks in the park have suffered ftom spring flooding and damage does occur to the parking lot area. Silvia Ruegger a young Olympic athiete of the Newtonville area was greeted by at least 400 at a reception held in the Newcatle Town Hall. The reception was to honour ber for ber remarkable achievement in setting a Canadian Long Distance Marathon record and in flnishing in eighth place in the games of the XXIII Olympiad held in Los Angeles. The Apple Blossom Shop in Orono offlcially opened their new spacious location on the west side of the Main Street on Thursday morning. The ribbon for the opening was cut by Regional Councillor Diane Hamre along with assistance from owner Yvonne Maitland, Merle Gibart and Dm1i Schoenmaker. The Annual Beef Barbecue held in the Orono Park was again blessed with fine weather. The Orono Arena Improvement and Projects Committee raised $ 1,000.00 at the Orono Barbecue. The Journey Into Yesterday, organized by the Ontario Trailrides Association, and involving some twenty riders and horses stopped overnight at Sandaraska Park last week in what is to be the last day of their provincial trip to conclude on August 25th. Soute of the group have been out on the trail for almost a month.
