Pisani, Mike Knapp. Durham Police Run For Special Olympies The Durham Regional Police ran from Golf Course Road clear across te region to the Toronto boundarY last Wednesday, to raise money for thte Special OlYmnpics. Last years run was honoured as te Top Fundraisng Program in the world. Law Enforcement agencies al across Ontario participate ini the event. The first annual 'Good News Assembly' took place on Monday, May 29. Ail the students and staff were in attendance. There were quite a few parents in the audience as well. Each class had prepared a littie something which they performed on stage. There was singing, dancing, poetry reading, a few plays, a story was read, and then the grade eights, along with their teacher, stood before the school as a group. They had chosen this way of saying their goodbyes and thank yous to everyone who had helped them through the years by presenting them with a carnation. It was a very touching ceremony. To end the celebration ail the teachers and staff got up on stage and sang a song, much to the delight of everyone else. Before anyone was dismissed there was one more person who had to be thanked and wished a fond farewell, Mrs. Katie Wolfe. She has flot been with the school very long and will be dearly missed. Ail to soon the assembly was over and it was time to go homne. On Tuesday, -May 30, the grade four students at St. Francis took a class trip to the Enniskillen Conservation Park. While there the students learned about tree identification and how trees are important to'our world. They also played a game which showed themn how the animais that live ini the forest depend on the forest for their survival. A fun time was had by one and ail. On Wednesday, May 3 lst the grade five students went on a class trip up to see tie production of Joseph and the Amiazing Technicolor Dreamcoat that is playing at the O'Keefe Centre ini Toronto. Alil the children were very impressed with the actors, the colorful costumes, the lighting effects and the singing and dancing. It was a trip of a lifetime! On Thursday, June Ist the grade six and seven students went on a ciass trip up to sec Qldi Fort York in Toronto. Their guide escorted themn through the different buildings that were there explaining a littie bit about each one. The tour didn't last very long, however it was very informative. On Wednesday, June 7th, ail the students and staff took advantage of the warmn wegther and ate their lunches on the grass under the trees in the park next to the school. Some of the students parents were also there. As a special treat everyone enjoyed the freezi es the schooL supplied. It was a fun day in the Sun for one and ail.
