Robert Duvail, Gena Rowlands, Kyra Sedgwick and Dennis Quaid Something 10 Talk About, Warner Brothers latest romantic- comedy release is well worth see- ing, but don't bririg the kids. A veiy funny story about farnily, mnar- niage and infidelity, it's definitely for couples. The story centres around the life of Grace Kelly (Roberts), who gave Up her dream of becoming a large- animal vet to be a southemn wife and mother, and work for her father's horse farm. I other words, to do what is expected of her. But everything changes when she discovers that her husband Eddie (Quaid) is cheating on her. Grace looks at her life and the lives of those around her, and realizes that she has te do something quick, or cornpletely lose her self ideritity. Ini the process, she turus everyone's life upside down. TMis is an ahl around excellent cast. Julia Roberts gives the best performance l've seen from her in a long time. Robert Duvail is a nat- ural as the overbearing southerri father, and Gena Rowlands was an excellent choice for his loving, mannerly, and proud wife.- Randy Quaid adds a new dimension te the cliche skirt chasing husband. But it's Kyra Sedgwick, as Graces' out- spoken sister, Emma Rae, who really steals the show. There a few problems with Something to Ta!k About. It's ofteri very dark, and the colours too sub- dued. More advantage should have been taken of the beautiful sur- roundings of a southemn horse farm. Story wiseJulia Robert's character perhaps does not go through as dras tic a change as the premise indicates. I also have mixed feel- ings about how her situation turris out. It's a little fairytailish, but then, who wants to see a depressing rornantic-comedy? Something to Talk About writer Caihie Khouri (Thelma and Loui se) pulls off a lot of great humour and skillfully avoids making this just another run of the miii comedy. Other famous names on the pro- duction crew include director Lasse Hallstrom (My Life as a Dog, GIMME A Kiss! by Arthur Black People will buy anything if it's one 10 a custoner' . Sinclair Lewis Well, alniost anything. I'm so old 1 can remember when there were no 'feminine hygiene prod-, ucts' in the world. That's because there was no such thing as a 'feminine hygiene problem' -- until Madison Avenue hucksters inventedit. Now it's a multi-million dollar business. The only question is: what will we pay for next? Doesn't have to be essential. Most major league basebail players wouldn't dream of stepping up to the plate without pulling on their 'hitting glovles' -- even though Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb and a host of swatters seemed to bc able to put the bal in play or over the wall bare-handed. And who decided we suddenly needed 'fanny packs' beited around our middles? We look like a nation of kangaroos. Have you heard about the latest proposed Florida Theme Park? It's a wall. The Berlin Wall, to be pre- cise. A group of German busi- nessmen plan to transport what's Ieft of the Berlin Wall to a site not far from Disney World, where it would be reassembled to look just like the real thing -- even including the famous Checkpoint Charlie. The Park -- might they cali it Rubble World? -- will have stage shows and theme restaurants'. Customers will be confronted by machine-gun-toting guards, simu- Iated mine fields and balloon rides over concertina rolls of razor wire. A spokesman says the park wil -recreate the feelings of the Cold War." Ahi! That's what's beeni missing from My life! Canada's beer barons play the same garne. In the past few years beer sales have been flattening out. Suds makers were faced with the problem of how to force more aie down the nation's' gullets. The solution? New beer of course. One last thing worth noting is the soundtrack by Graham Preskett and Hans Zimmer (The Lion King). Thé music is sub- tie, yet very powerful, and adds real flavour to the drarnatie, tense parts of the film. 1Overail, Something to Talk About is worth the price of admis- sion.
