Letter to the Editor World Class Ward The people of Ward 3, (the area bounded by the former Township of Clarke) can neyer be accused of not maklng the most of their considerable assets. The term 'World class' has often been applled to our big neighbour to the west. The events of this summer show that we have our own touch of (world) class. The Wooden Boat Festival held at the Port of Newcastle in July attracted wooden boats from aIl over Lake Ontario. There were a num- ber of vintage Canadian and American wooden boats, as well as the yacht commis- sioned for Klng Gustav of Sweden moored in our waters. This first time event brought hundreds of people to our municipality. The Great Ganaraska Country, Adventure in August was a showcase for what our rural area has to offer the world. Thousands of visitors from aIl over southern Ontario (and some from abroad) were able to sample our hospitality, food, and varied country attrac- tions. The organizers of this event are pioneers in what has become known as'agri- tounism7 » Are other areas (or countries) planning to copy their example? While it may not be on the International Grand Prix cir- Cuit, MOSDort Park is well known by racing car enthu- slasts as a destination point for their sport. Every sum- mer it draws many people into our area. The Central Durhami Fair in September just keeps on getting better year after year because of the dedication of our local organizers. Anyone who wants to see the original concept for the C.N.E, need only visit our fair. The Ontario Rodeo Finals are being held in Orono again this year. t promises to be bigger and better than ever. Will it be much longer before we become known internationally as Calgary East or the Orono Stampede? The Clarke Museum and Archives celebrated its 25th year of existence this sum- mier. The Museum is a tes- tament to the generations who w-ent before us and helped make this area what it is today. The Clarington Concert Band recently presented an evening of entertainmnent with the Royal Regiment of Wales. Llstening to their bugles, it occurred to me that we are getting better at blowing our own horns. We should. We have a lot to cel- ebrate in our corner of the w orld!
