Three years ago there were only eight rodeos in Ontario: there were twenty this year. The Vice President of the e ridin' hig Ontario Rodeo Association (O.R.A.), Neil Roberts, told the Times the attendance is up "'10 fold from last year". Every show for the rodeo was a nearly sold out. h One of the j udges at the Ontario Rodeo Championship, Robin Welch, watches closely as this cowboy tries to drop a steer in the Steer Wrestlilng event. Pathfinders awarded Canada Cord n Orono 1While talking wlth any of the people involved in the rodeo you get the feeling you are with one big family. With the competition just one hour away, many of the finallsts made time to sign autographs, show you how to lasso, or let you meet some of the fastest horses around. Pat Jamison, coor- dinator of the autograph session, Dick Snider, O.R.A. public relations director, and Bob Tozer were ve ry helpful: introducing me to the final- lsts - and the lîvestock! This friendly atmosphere is certainly one of the reasons for the success of the Rodeo. The dedlication of the rodeo competitors is truly remarkable. At least three finalists were in hospital during the season but suc- cessfully competed to reach the chamnplonships. Camipbellfords own Joanne Cartan, wlnner of the Cowgirl, Breakaway event, is proof of the abiity to over- come adverslty. This cow- girl's skill at roping is defi- nitely equal to the mens'. In the Cowglrl Barrel Racing, Brandi Lloyd, from Coldwater, was the quickest in the tumns and stretch for the Year-End Buekle. (continued page 2) by H.
