New Use for Armouries in Orono The Armories in Orono will be having a newtenant as the Town has given approval to a proposai to lease the building. At pre- sent the building is used to house the Clarke Museum's artifacts that are not on dis- play. 1Clarington Chief Administrative Officer Bill Stockwell said that the building was a surplus building for the Town, and has been put up on the mar- ket twice, in 1988 and in 1994. There was neyer any serlous interest of purchase either time. The building will be leased by 760619 Ontario Ltd/Apogee Productions who want to use the whole structuire. The mutseum col- lection will have to,,.be,, miovecd. Stockw,,ell said that there were other buildings in the Muniicipality that couild hold the collection. The Clarke Museum Board would not comment on the collection's future at this time. Councillor Pat Pingle was especially concemned about what would happen to the Museum collection. Stockwell stressed again that the Municipality has structures that could hold the collection. He also implied that the Museum might now receive the new building that they have been asking for for some time now, to use as storage and displa y space. The new structure would be located on the Museum site. Councillor Mary Novak was concemned that the pro- cess of finding a new tenant was not done properly.
