These, form- er Orono play- ers are Kyle Be-acock, Neale Borutskie, Ranidy Brennan and Duisty Staipleton. Players returning from last year include Jon Armishaw, Colin Bayda, Jimmy Conboy, Chris David, Steve Foster, Jerry Guflirie, Craig Harness, Chris MeLean and Vince Norton. Coaches this year are Jim Conboy and R'ick Arrishaw. 0O'ur fîrst league game, October 19 at Newcastle Arena saw the Newcastle squadjump into an early 2 0 lead. 'The Skylight Donut for opener team got one back late in the second and tied if early in the fhird. Neediess penalties, taken by both teams, and cailed, by the officiais slowed the pace of the game to a crawl. With just under three minutes remaining on the dlock Skylight Donuts scored the go-ahead goal on a break away. Chances for a Newcastle come back were not to be. as ice lime had elapsed. For our first game of the season this was a good effort. Next game is on October 28 at 6:00 at the Orono Arena. Leafs Major Tykes host season opener On Friday, _October 20, the Orono Leafs Major Tykes hosted a 'game with the Bowmanvilie Sports Exchange. The first period began in a flurry of excitement, the Leafs pumped for the first game of the season. Bowmanville challenged Orono by mranaging f0 score 2 goals at the top of the peri- od, however the Leafs put a stop to that for the duration of the second period with great teamwork. The third period began with some play in the Bowmanville end, working hard fo secure a goal but Bowmanville turned fhings around and scored a f hird goal, finishing with a 3-0 win. Great work by our defensemen, Jonathan Gregg, Robyn Henderson, Scott Henderson, Brien Konopka, Heather Maifland and Daniel Riley. WelI played by our forwards Matt Bester, Doug Deboo, Cameron Delorne, Sarah Donnelly and Joshua Flynn. Great work forwards Ryan Knox, Jonathan Koerssen, Shane Winters and Adam Wood. Maff Baxter played a fantastic gamne in net, stopping many tricky shots on nef. An exciting game for ail! The nexf game fakes place in Bowmanville on Saturday, October 28th. Go Leafs Go! Scoreless draw for Apple Blossom Shop Novice The first game of the sea- son matched the Orono Novice team against the Bowmanville Eagles. The game began with rugged play in the neutral zone unfil fhe four minute miark when Ryýan Campney (#9) dug out from, the corner and regis- tered the first shot on) goal of the season. Colin Maifiand (#411) and Greg Dunhamr (# 17) contin iially shot dnwn the Eagies offence with vef- eran defensive play. Jusfin Guillemefte-White (#8) woke up the crowd wifh a greaf individuai effort cutting in from the righf side and forc- ing the goalie into a good stop. Kyle Johnston (#30) was tested at the end of the first making a lightning toc save on the Eagies besf chance. Period fwo was end to end with Ryan Campney (#9) blasting a screened slapshof right on target but not [mnd- ing home.- Defermined backchecking by Brandon West (#6) and Mike Fuller (#2) helped Orono end the second with no goals againsf, The third period feafured a blisfering shof from the siof by David Landman (#7) on a corner feed from Joseph Staples (#4), that just grazedl the post.- Orono kilà,ed the only penalty of the gamre at the 11:00 minute mark. This game was not- as suc- cessful as their firsf meeting and Orono fook a loss of 4-2. Orono played well and had many chances throughout the game, buf fhe Blackhawks dominated the game. Scoring for Orono was l3ryan Bickell and assist to Matt Caruana at 4:48 in the first * And Matt Caruana unassisted 1:30 in the sec- ond period. Orono took part in the Newcastle Village Minor H ockey Atom Tournament on the weekend and came away the -B" champs after playing the Whitby Selects. Orono played well ail week- end as a teamn and their only loss was te, the rough and tumble team from Fenelon Falls. Allun) PUBLIC NOTICE SENIOR CITIZENS AND THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED SIDEWALK AND DRIVEWAY WINDROW SNOW CLEARING PROGRAM The Municipality of Clarington is offering senior citizens, 65 years of age- and, over and the physically disabled, a snow clearing service on municipal sidewalks and for driveway windrows adjacent f0 single family dwellings, which includes semi-detached, link housing and row housing in the urban areas of Bowmanville, Courtice, Orono, Newcastle Village and in the Hamiets of Burketon, Newtonville, Tyrone, Leskard, Haydon, Kendal, Solina, Hampton, Enniskillen, Maple Grove, Enfield, Mitchell Corners and Kirby. To be eligible for this service, applicants must be 65 years of age or older or be physîcally disabled, occupy a single family dwelling which fronts onto a municipal street in the specified urban areas or the urbanized areas of the specified hamlets, and have no able bodied persons under the age of 65 years,,residing on the property. Senior citizens must provide a copy of a birth certificate or senior citizens number; physically disabled applicants must provide a doctor's certificate. Residents who received the service in 1994 will receive their application in the mail.
