OJro,-no Atom Donut Gallery close season opener game The Orono Atom Gallery played their home opener of the 1995/96 BRHIL season on Wednesday, October 18, 1995 against Bowmanville Kinsmen. This first effort of' the season was a very close gamne that resulted in a 2-0 loss for Orono. The game was scoreless until late in the second peri- od. With five minutes left on the dlock, a Kinsmen player deked out both Orono defencemen to score. One minute later, Michael Knapp almost evened the score, but the Kinsmen goalie robbed him of the goal. Then with only one minute remaining in the second period, a shot by Bowmanville was deflect- ed high over the Orono goalie's shoulder to make the score 2-0 for the visiting team. In the third period, Kevin Pritchard and Tyler Gregg created good scoring oppor- tunities. Kevin Martin and Robert Roth played a solid defensive game, brea-king up rushes by the opposing teain, and starting the offen- sive for Orono. Jeff Dickenson and Jordan Beacock made notable pass- ing plays in this outing. Thi~s was clearly a game characterized by excellent goaltending. Orono goalie Josh Brandt made ten exceptional saves to keep Donut Gallery in the game, while the Kinsmen goalie thwarted the solid goal scor- îng opportunities of Orono, including five shots on net in the final thirty seconds of the game. Overali, it was a good first game for the Orono Atom team. Orono Atom Donut Gallery will play their next BRHL game in Orono on Wednesday, November 1, 1995 at 7:00 p.m. against Bownanville Non-Contact. Weekend OMHIA Pee Wee league action saw thec Orono Family Auto Lafs win their fourth straight gaine. The Leafs hosted fthe Omemee Sharks Friday, October 20 edgihg them 4-3 ini an excit- ing confrontation. This was the best match fromn a Leaf fan's perspective thus far this season. The Sharks led 2-1 after one with Orono scoring a lone second period goal to tie it at 2-2., The game was tied 3-3 until late in the final frame when Orono's Brandon Caruana banged home the winner at 1:26. It was thec right winger's third tally on the night and fifth in league play. Highlighting the game was a stellar performance put in by Leaf forward Tyler Robinson. The stalky centre handed out some solid body checks and engineered two of" his team's goals. Final shots in the gamne favoured thec Sharks by a 23-21 mar- gin.
