The first period opened with lots of action in the opposing end and some swift shots on goal. Ryan Tresise (99) finaîly slipped past the steadfast goalie, with an unassisted goal to end the first period .1-0.< With a few bard hitting checks in the boards-and powerful shots on the opposrng goalie some penal- ties were acquired on-both sides. Even though we had some excellent defence work by Chris Bouley (11) and Kyle Moore (12) to kîli the penalty, time Hoopers shot a quick goal in. With lots of digging and a brisk shot by Scott.Wood (10), Hoopers' steadfast goalie'sswift hand- blocked any chance of a goal to end the period 1 -1. Armstrong rallied, back in the third period, with, some aggressive moves on Hoopers' uniwavering goalie but the game ended 1-a. Win or lose sponsor Don Armstrong supported the boys and treated them to drinks. Sonbon. Home, Flyers finding wins hard ta corne by The Newcastle Sonbon Homes Flyers are still flnd- ing wins hard to corne by in the early going as they lost twice more, 9-4 to Arms trong's Sports- from Oshawa and 6-3 to Whitby Marigol1ds.. Against Armstrong's the Flyers fell behind 6-0 before Gary Chapman put them on the board wth assists from Dave McKee and Gary Sherban. Armstrongs scored agaîn before Gary Sherban teamed up wîth Neil Ingram'for a nice give and go goal by Gary. Dave McKee picked up the third Flyer goal knocking in a rebound from Gary Sherban with Craig MacLeod also assisting. The final Flyer goal was scored by Gary Sherban from Craig MacLeod. The Flyers fe.ll behind early against Marigold also before Craig MacLeod found the net on a pass from Dave Wright. Gary Sherban scored the other two Flyers' goals wîth Larry Pearce assisting on botb. Doug Matheson and Paul Slemon pîcked up one assist each. Apple Blossom Novice host Bowmanvîlle Sports Orono's coachjuggled the line up, making for an excit- îing end to end game. Justin Guillemette - White (44) and Derek Sellars (88) put up a solid defensive display early in the game. At the 7:00 minute mark Greg Dunbamn (11) let go a patented high shot knocking- over the Bowmanville goalie. Seconds later Garrett wood (66) feathered a pass in front to Dunham (11) just miss- ing. Brandon West (3) con- tinued bis fiery play, check- ing any bowmanville player that strayed into bis zone. The first period ended with noscoring. 1The second began with Ben Bell (33) firing a wrist shot, night on, from the left side. Ryan Campney (99) cruisîng in from the right tried to hammer home the rebound forcing a good save. Bowmanville finally broke up the scoreless game with a goal at 10:33-on a high shot. At 9:46 Orono picked up the penalty of the game - Bowmanville pressed but they came up empty. With only seconds (.33) left Ryan Campney (93) tied the game witb an unassisted goal. After letting go a blistering back hand on the net, Campney hustled in and banged in thie loose puck. Orono goalie Kyle Johnston (29) owned the third. Bowiianville pep- pered hlmii with 13 shots in 15 miiinutes. He stopped two dlean breakaways, one two on nione, and two toughi shots fromn wingers allowed to walk in alIone fromn the left corner. With all this pres- sure on, Bowrnanville scored the game winner at 12:29 on a bigh shot from 25 feet out that was deflected, leaving the Orono goalie with no chance. Near the ned of the third, Orono found itself shortbanded for about 20 seconds when Mike Fuller's (2) stick snapped. The play ground to a balt with botb teams in apparent sbock. Fînally a desperate ref convinced them that the game must go on! Great game team! Geralidi Insurance chops down Beaver Lumber, On Friday, Qctober 20 the Coaches Jeif Mitchell, Brad Leech and Ôàreg Maclsaac were quite iffpressed with their Oronoô Minor Tyke Leafs as thdY conquered Bowrnanville £3eaver Lumber 6-0 on Fridayý, November 3. The players played "as a team which resulted in their first victory!!,, 1 st goal in first period by #22 Nick Williams, unas- sisted. Congratulations Nick! 2nd goal also in first peri- od by # 17 Darcy Mitchell, assisted by #4 Michael Whelan - Excellent play boys! 13rd goal in 2nd period by # 17 Darcy Mitchell - Congratulations to Darcy for his 3rd goal of the season! 4th goal in 2nd period by #39 Daniel Maclsaac, assist- ed by #93 Lucas Leech. Great team work boys! Sth goal was in 3rd period by #5 Matt Moffat whose fast skating and sharp shooting rewarded him with his lst goal of-the season. 6th goal also in the 3rd period by #66 Robert Kay whose great determination paid off with his first goal of the season - Congratula- tions Robert! Orono's defence #2 Matthew Fuller, #1il Kyle Balson, #88 Jessie Rice, #99 Jake Stockwell, #22 Nick Williams and #4 Michael Whelan played a solid game. Centremen #7 Brandon Ernst, # 14 Denis Beenen, and # 17 Darcy Mitchell all, proved to be quick on the draw. Wingers were #93 Lucas Leech, #39 Daniel Maclsaac, #33 Colin Kelly, #66 Robert Kay, # 10 Mark Franko, and #5 Matt Moffat who played their positions well, digging in the corners relentlessly for the puck helping to bring the teama to its victory! Goalie #29 Troy Webster made somefantastic saves to give us our first "shut out". Excellenitwork Troy!, Overail this was a fast paced game, and surprising- ly had lots of body contact. Orono- played it cool while Beaver Lumber was in the penalty box, once in the first period for roughing and agaîn in 3rd period for body contact. Excellent Team Work Leafs! 1On Saturday, November 4th the NH L Oldtimers played in Bowmanville and the Orono Geraldi Insurance, team had the privilege to play an exhibition game against Bowmanville Beaver Lumber prior to the NHL Oldtimers. It was a large crowd for the kids and a real thrill to sce some of the NHL GREATS. The kids say it was like being "stars"! Our first star was #93 "Lightening" Lucas Leech scoring 2 goals, #7 Brandon Ernst 'and #99 Jake Stockwell, both scoring their first goal. Goalie #29 Troy Webster was flawless in, net withi his 2ndý shutout in 2 games - "have the'Leafs founrýd their goaltender?" 01-ono0defea ted Bowmian.ville 4-0. Good work guys, lots of fun!' Te.
