Sonbon Homes Flyers get Apple Blossom's Novice back into the win column The Newcastle Sonbon Homes Flyers got back into the win column on Sunday, November 12 with a 6-3 win over Ontario Motor Sales. Craig MacLeod was the big gunner as he had a hand in all six goals. Gary Sherban was just a step behind as he figured in on five goals. Craig MacLeod opened the scoring with Dave McKee and Gary Sherban assisting. Craig came right back with his sec- ond goal on passes from Gary Chapman and Gary Sherban. OMS scored a goal only to have Gary Chapman score for the Flyers from Gary Sherban and Craig MacLeod. OMS battled back with a goal late in the second period and another early in the third to tie up the game. Gary Chapman scored the eventu- al winner on assists from Gary Sherban and Craig MacLeod. Gary Sherban was then setup on an excellent pass from Dave McKee with Craig MacLeod also assisting. Craig MacLeod wrapped up the scoring by hitting the empty net with a long shot from his own end of the rink. Cam Wilson had an excel- lent game in the Flyers net. Orono Major Tykes lose one and win one On Friday, November 17, the Orono Major Tykes played against the Bowmanville Rotary Club. Un fort un a t e1ly Bowmanville scored 87 goals in the first period. Orono, still playing with great determina- tion, scored twice. Ryan Knox broke away from the pack and scored Orono's first goal. Matt Baxter advanced to the Bowmanville net and skillful- ly potted a corner shot, scor- ing the Leaf s second and final goal. The Rotary Club scored seven more times, the final score was 14-2 for Bowmanville. Despite the score, Orono played with ceaseless effort. Special appreciation to Johnny Gregg and Scott Henderson who took turns in net, and Doug Deboo who returned to the net and made some fantastic saves. On November 18 the Orono Major Tykes played the Bowmanville Sports Exchange. Remembering their previous 5-2 loss against the Sports Exchange, the Leafs were eager to even the score. Matt Baxter began the scoring in the first period with a calm and calculated shot on net. Despite Bowmanville's efforts, they could not score. The Sports Exchange pulled their goalie with 30 seconds left in the third period, Matt Baxter tak- ing advantage of that and scores again for Orono with only 15 seconds left in the game, wrapping up our 2-0 win. Special appreciation to Ryan Knox who played a great two way game and Doug Deboo who played well in net. Also playing hard for Orono was Matt Bester, Cameron Delorme, Sarah Donnelly, Joshua Flynn, Robyn Henderson, Jonathan Koerssen, Brien Konopka, Heather Maitland, Daniel Reilly, Shane Winters and Adam Wood. Major Plumbing Novice continue winning streak Orono OMHA Novices con- tinued their winning streak this week, with 2 regular sea- son wins and threw in a exhi- bition win over the weekend to boot. On Thursday, November 16 Orono was up against the home team of Newcastle. Scoring didn't start until 7:30 of the first, when Kyle Allin took the pass from teammate Chris Moffat and let loose with a high shot on net. 1-0 Orono. One more goal was scored closing out the first, when Kyle Cox took a quick shot scoring on Newcastle's net. Assisting on that play was Doug Garlick. 2-0 Orono. He second period had come and gone with no scoring. We head into the third and Orono's Kyle Cox gets his sec- ond goal of the game when he accepts a pass from Justin Hill and shoots it in 3-0. At the midway point of the third Orono has monopolized the scoring, and Doug Garlick reinforces the drive when he flips it in. Linemate Jason Geraldi assisted on that goal now giving Orono a 4-0 lead. Doug Garlick gets his sec- ond goal in a row and third point of the game when he shoots it in and is credited with the assist, his second point of the game. Final 5-0 Orono. Working hard in the cor- ners were wingers Paul Richter, Taylor Doyle and Stevie Gregg. Defensively Evan Moore, Justin Caruana, Brian Pisani and Chris Moffat were solid, noting Evan Moore made a great defensive play to get back and stop a Newcastle rush. With 1:27 left in the game, Newcastle had a chance to get on the scoreboard, but goalie Ian Crashley came through with a great save. out shoot James Ins. Bowmanville opened the scoring early at 13:03 on a high shot from the right win. After that, the Shop put it in high gear with Dave Landman (99) making two end to end rushes, both up the boards. Minutes later Justin Guillemette-White (44) hit the post on a blistering blast from the left side. Greg Dunham (11) kept the pressure on with a rush in alone. At 4:20, with Dunham (11) still in hustle mode, he evened the score (unassisted) with two deft moves, speeding in alone from the right corner firing in a goal with is perfected wrist shot. With only 1:36 left in the first, a defensive lapse ended in Bowmanville's sec- ond goal. Orono outshot The day after on November 17 Orono hosted Bewdley for the first time this year. The first period provided fast breaking action and although Orono was all over Bewdley the scoreboard remained at zero. Doug Garlick let a shot go that hit the post just as the buzzer rang. This was fore- shadowing, for entering the second period, Doug got it back when he deposited it in Bewdley's net. Assisting on that play was Chris Moffat. Still in the second Kyle Allin makes it 2-0 when he goes down on net and scores unassisted. Heading into the last period, Paul Richter takes a shot and Taylor Doyle deflects it in making it 3-0 Orono. Still in the third, when Chris Moffat sends it around the boards ricochet- ing off Taylor Doyle's stick to Kyle Allin who then takes it from the neutral zone and goes deep into Bewdley's end to shoot it in the corner slot. 4-0 Orono. The fifth goal of the game came when Kyle Allin receives the hat trick on an unassist- ed goal. 5-0 Orono, With 5.5 left in the game, Justin Hill makes it 6-0 with a nice shot from a feed from Brian Pisani. The last goal of the game showed Kyle Cox taking it right from the face- off, going down on net and shooting it through the five hole. Final 7-0. Wingers Jason Geraldi, Stevie Gregg, and Andy Bangay reinforced the team's win, and defensively, Brian Pisani. Justin Caruana, Evan Moore and Chris Moffat showed strong form. Goalie Ian Crashley received his sec- ond shut-out of the week, playing well also. Rounding out the weekend, Orono travelled to Peterborough Sunday morn- ing for an exciting exhibition game. This was a 1-0 game with Kyle Allin scoring the lone goal with 30 seconds left in the third period, making it well worth the trip. Receiving his third shut-out in a row was netminder lan Crashley. their opponents 5 - 2. In the second, Josh Moffat (on defense made some speedy rushes out of the cor- ners to clear the puck while Garrett Wood (66) continued his solid stand-up defensive checks at the blue line. Chris Buttonshaw (9) dazzled the crowd with his tenacious back checking. And the offense was humming in the second also, with Justin Guillemette-White (44) cruis- ing in alone, his high shot hit- ting the goalie chest high. Ryan Campney (93) let a screamer go from a corner face-off. But at 6:56 Bowmanville scored their 3rd from a scramble in front. Orono killed a penalty at 3:33 and outshot Bowmanville for the second straight period. Colin Maitland (12) had to come up with numerous clearing pass- es as Bowmanville came at Orono in waves. One of the nicest passes of the night was from tough corner digging by Carl Tordiff (8) who slipped a slick pass to a waiting Joseph Staples (10) in front.
