Have any of your songs been recorded by other bands yet? We are close on gettîng some cuts witli other Canadian bands. I hadn't really tried to get my songs out thereas it is still my first album, but some of the songs are being worked on. It is really exciting. At the heart of Mary Lynn Wren, what are you, a song writer or a singer? Botli. They are not mutu- ally exclusive.. If it is in your soul to write songs, it comes naturally for you. It is in my soul. Lots of people do botli. It is a natural tradition. How long have you been involved in music? Since 1 was a little kid, at least 20 years. 1 sang in choirs, my sister played piano, it lias always been there. Music was in my house, I was always encour- aged, My parents were not professional musicians, they just liked music. Music was important. Some people are borh with it. As soon as you get there you know what you want to do. No one had to coax me to perform. It is a self directed thing. -Who were your influ- ences whlle- growing up Town Sa turday and who are your favounite artists now? Growing up, I would have to say I was influenced by ahl the great classic singers. My mom played, lots of records, Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Devo, Neil Young, Joni Mitchel; we were also a big Beatles liouseliold. I always liked John Lennon. Emmy Lou Harris became an influence in Higli Scliool; I really liked lier stuff. Now Irm more a fan of songs. I go for the song more than any- thing. It's the lyrics, and a feel. I used to be crazed over artists. I listen to rock, alternative, ahl kinds of music. 1 play country but I listen to everytliing. That is liow I stay fresli. I've always been that way. Who would you say your music sounds- like the Most? My liero the last little while is Patti Loveless. She likes to rock and she lias a beautiful sense of country music. On the national scene, I think she is the best. If anything, I would like to have somnething in common mnost with lier. We are botli into the samnetbinig. There is something in com- mon musically there. How has your CD, More Than Friends sold in both Canada and the U.S.? It liasn't been released in the U.S. It is strictly a Canadian release. As an independent, it lias done quite*well. Here lie is holding a piece of plastic board, soon to be cut and tumed into a sign, thus becoming an advertisement. We found Sanjay Lad at his family's, business, The Twin Oaks Motel, Kelly Holmes at Dr. McArthur's Dental office and Holly Swaga at Newcastle Jr. Y. These grade fines were ail involved in learning more about the career areas in» these businesses. And the last grade 9,we found on this day was Zack Fiddis. Zack was helping doctor'at the Bowmanville Veterinary Clinie. As hie stepped out of one of the rooms because he was told there were people to see him, lie almost had a "heart attack" to see Mrs. Keanis. But he quickly calmed down and was urged by her to pose writh the clinie's cat.
