Bowmanville wrapped up the period by scoring again. Durham Tv. started off the third period witl a goal, the score now 5- 2. Orono made a great came- back and scored 3 goals, tying the game 5-5. Scoring for the Leafs was Matt Bester, assisted by Cameron Delorme, and Shane Winters earning 2 goals unassisted. It was a very close game altlaugli Bowmanville man- aged ta score the winnimg goal with oly 2 minutes left in the period, tIc final score 6-5 for Bowmanville Durham T.V. playing well for the Oromo Leafs was Jonathan Koerssen, Robyn Henderson, Ryan KNox, Scott Henderson, Daniel Reilly, Joshua Flynn, Brien Konopka, Doug Deboo, Johnny Gregg, Adam Wood and Heather Maitland. Playing solidly in net was Sarahi Donnelly, excellent work Shane Winters wlio earned a hat-trick! Good team work Orono! in regards ta last weeks game, (Orono Major Tykes vs the Bowmanville Rotary Club) I meglected ta mention that Joshua Flynn played a large part of the game in net. Joshua played very well fend- ing off the Bowmanville team, gaod work Joshua! Orono Donut Gallery meet their Orono atomi Donut Gallery met their match on1 Wedncsday, Novemiber 15, 1995 in a hockey game against Bowmanville's Carnation Flowers. Carnation Flowers took advantage of the first major snowfall of the season. Sdhool buses were camcelled WEdnesday, and the Orono players spent the day playing in the snow, "G-TFing", mak- ing snow forts and otlerwise tiring tlemselves out. Carnation Flowers won this match handily by a score of 5- 1. The game did have some good moments for Oromo. Jordan Beacck and Matthew Barnes combined for a num- ber of good passing plays, and together they created two good scaring apportunities, but the Bowmanvîlle goalie stopped Jordan's shot bath times. Michael Teixeira lad a breakaway scoring chance, reminiscent of goals lie scored in a previaus game. Kyle mîacDonald Iîad a blistering shot on met i n thc second period that went just wide of thc goal post. Kevin Pitdhard lad a strang defensive game breaking Up plays and getting a brcakaway scoring oppor- tumîty that was spoiled whcn le was tripped. After this flurry of chances, it was Tyler Gregg whowas able ta, finally get Oromo on thc scoreboard witl a goal assisted by Jeif Diekenson. Shawn DeJong showed goad leadership for, the discouraged Orono team, by continuing to play liard right until tIc end of the game. Sîawn made tîre good plays ta kccp thc puck onside.while in Carnatian's end, and thereby give Orono some scoring opportunities. Orono Donut Gallery lad a. chance to redeem themselves with an early Saturday morn- ing game in Bowma nville on November 18, 1995 against Crow's Sports. The Orono tearn played much better, and match liad tIc lcad for most of the game, until the last four and one-haîf minutes, wîen Crow's Sports came back to win the match 2- 1. It was a game that went back and forth, end ta end, but Orono appeared ta domi- mate. Jordan Beacock got the first shot on net for Orono, followed by another scoring chance by Kevin Martin. With one minute remaining in the first period, Orono finally went ahead wlien Tyler Gregg netted a screened goal, assisted by Kevin martin. Will Lofgren and Chirist opher Ouimet played well witli their centre Tyler Gregg and dleserve assists for this goal, >since the puck was passed around a lot inside Bowmanville's territory before the goal was scored. Shawn Dedang was really digging in this game, and assisted Mike Knapp witl a couple of shots on net that did not go in. Robert Roth played strong defence and saved a goal for Orono early in the second period. Orono played a strong game until late in the third period, as was demonstrated' by the lack of Crow's Sparts scoring opportunities. Steven Webb,' Kienan Williams, and Kevin Pritchards, played real- ly solid. classic defense - skating backwards and tak- ing the Bowmanville forwards, into the corner and out of the play. However, witli four and one-haîf minutes left ta the, game, Crow's Sports really put on the pressure, scoring the tying goal while tIc Orono players were scrambling, and out of position. Goalie Josli Brandt saw lis most activity of the game during these last few minutes, and lie made seve ral outstanding saves including two higli shots off hIs shoulder. in the last two minutes of the game, Josli made a furtliersix saves. Witli that many shots on net, it was only a ïnatter of time when Bowmaniville scored the winning goal with forty sec- onds remaining on the dlock. This was a really strong effort for Orono and a disap- pointing loss for the team. This team is much better than what their record shows. It is a credit ta the teamwork of Donut Gallery that the players know how ta move the puck up ice, and thcy look for the pass, rather than taking a shot. Players are aware of their lime-mates, and cover for one another if, for example, a defenceman gets a breakaway. Team members do know how ta play their positions and rarely make cammon mistakes like being offside. The team lias bath speed and hockey smarts. As one player stated, "I think we sometimes get taa excited when we are close to a win, and then we get a bit slappy a nd make mistakes." Orono Atom Donut Gallery lias the talent and the teamwork ta be a winning hockey team. Ail tliey need is more Urne together, a littie stronger effort and a little bit of luck, 50 that the bounces aund referring calis go our way, once in a while. The players wisli to tliank their sponsors, The Donut Gallery on Higliway 115 for providing complimentary donuts after Wednesday's game. Mackie and Reid undefeated The Mackie and Reid midgets are heading towards another winning season. The team lias started off at 3 wins and no lasses. Returning Mackie players are Scott Sawyer, Scott (Moose) and Brent Logan, Shaun Hentig, Brett Maartense, B.d. Hackett, Grant Esier, Dan Frew, Devon Witheridge, Ryan Lewult and Guyý Tausignant. Newcomers are: Jon Noble, Tom Wakefield, wade Peacock, Dan Rowe and Scott MacKay. Last year's coachi John Witheridge lias accepted a new position as head coadch of the peewees. To replace him Brian (eat my shorts) Hackett lias taken over with manager Dwight Esier and trainer Joe Hentig. 1The midgets won the first two games against the mighty Ramiinor squad and Oshiawa. On Navembil-er 2Otli the team played their third game agaminst Osh1awva Willowdale. After jumping ahecad 1 -0 witli a goal from MacKay, Moose Logan then picked the puck up at lis blue Uime and thun dered down the ice, did a "liow-she-going"', spin arama around a defenceman, tIen while balancing on anc foot managed ta put tIc puck tîrougli the goalies legs. Witl the score 2-0 Maartense and Witheridge took aver splitting the next 5 goals. Witheridge finished the game with the hat trick, Maartense biscuit in the basket twice. Assists went ta Esler (2), Wakefield (3),- Hentig (2), Frew, Peacock and Hackett each with one. Between the pipes Sawyer displayed great skill and was disappointed when Oshawa scored their first and only goal late in the game. Rink Ramblings: Scott MacKay will be on a vacation for dancing on the ice... Scott Sawyer lias a GAA of 0.66 in 3 games... Tousignant will be returning in 2 gmes ... Grant Esler's discolored Jofa is stililihard as a rock and is now fallowed by former rookie Dan Frew. . .
