4-Orono Wee1-ly 'fîmes,WeesaJnry1,96 Mvackie And Reid Midgets The Mackie and Reid Midgets finished off 1995 on a high, winnîng their last two ganies. The Midgets took on the first place team, Bowmanville IGA on December 12th. In a sioppy affair which featured, a lot of neutral zone play, Grant Esier (from Brett Maartense and BJ Hackett), Wade Peacock (from John Noble) and Devon Witheridge (from Dan Frew) scored for Orono, as they out- lasted the Bowmanville teamn 3-2. The last game of '95 found Orono at home to Woodview. Backstopped by a strong game from Scott Sawyer, Orono won 5-0. After a scoreless first, Orono exploded for a three goal sec- ond. After buzzing around the Woodview zone for most of the shift, Wade Peacock, opened the scoring, assisted by Grant Esler. Two minutes later Guy Tousignant scored from just outside the crease to make it 2-0, Tom Wakefield and Devon Witheridge draw- ing assists. BJ Hackett rounded out the second peri- od assault, assisted by Brett Maartense and Tom Wakefield. Orono proceeded to two more in the third as just 24 seconds into the period Guy Tousignant stole the puck and went down on a helpless Woodview goalie. Tuesday, January 2 the Leafs hosted Osbawa's LNHL Canadiens and coasted to a 5-2 victory. Greg Shetler scored a pair 'witb John Halik. Tyler Robinson, Jeif Thompson, and Bob Witheridge adding singles. Leafs outsbot the Canadiens 24-,15. Friday, January 5 Orono hosted the Bobcaygeon Cougars, beating them by a 5-2 score. Jeif Thompson, Tyler Robinson, Greg Bester, Brandon Caruana, and Paul Landers were the Leaf marks- men. Orono held a 26-15 edge in shots in this contest. Saturday, January 6 saw the Leafs travel to Oshawa and defeat the LNHL Bruins 5-3. Orono got an early jump on Oshawa leading 4-1 after one period. However the Bruins fought back and made a garne of it outshooting Orono 22-20. Bruins fougbt back and made a game of it out- shooting Orono 22-20. Leaf forward Andrew Beacock had a strong performance in the match contributing two assists. The speedy winger is having a fine rookie season averaging just under a point a game. He's among the top four on the club witb a shoot- ing accuracy of 19.23% and bas played in ail but one of bis team's 36 games thus far.
