H.L. tournament hosted by Harvey's and Swiss Chalet. The first gaine was played against Horner Petro- Canada. During this hard hitting game Horner's jumped into an early lead at 3:17 of the first period, but at the 9:00 minute mark Scott McKay tied the game, assisted by Guy Tousignant. Before the period ended Brent'Logan took a nice pass froin Brent Maartense to take the lead 2-1 at the end of the 1lst period. Early in the 2nd period Petro- Canada tied the gaine and just one minute later Thomas Wakefield scored assisted by B.J. Hackett. The final score was 3-2 for Mackie and Reid. In the second game Mackie and Reid played Ballycliff Lodge' of Ajax. Orono jumped into a 2-O lead by the end of the 1lst period on goals by B.J. Hackett froin Grant Esier and Jonathan Noble. With one minute left in the 2nd period, Ajax scored two q uick goals to tie the gaine at 2-2. Tremiendous goal tendlng by both teains'kept the gaine close in this excit- ing contest. Ajax pulled, their goalie with one minute remaining, and Scott Sawyer made two amazing saves, one with just two seconds remaining to end in a 2-2 tie. Orono advanced to the final because the first goal scored in the case of a tie wins the game in that tournament. In the final game, Orono played Graham's I.GA of Bowmanville. Orono came out flying out shooting the I. G.A. by a 3: 1 ratio in the first and second periods. .G.A. took a 1-0 lead, but with ten seconrl',, 1ift in thi- second period, Jonathan Noble scored on an end to end rush tying the game at 1-1. In the third period, Oruno jumped into a quick 2-1 lead on a loose puck picked up in the' slot by Guy Tousîgnant, who rifled one to the top corner. 1 minute later, Thomas Wakefield on another solo effort scored to make it 3-1. I.G.A. came back to score 1 more goal leaving the final score at 3-2. A good dlean,_ physical game was played with tremendous defensively offensive play throughout thîs gaine and the tournamfent (especially goal tending where Scott Sawyer was his usual rock in net). Special mention to Jeif Parry of I.G.A. who was terrifie. Congratulations to Mackie and Reid Orono Midget "A" Champs. Orono Atom Donut Gallery Hockey News 1Orono Donut Gallery travelled to Manvers on Saturday, January 13, 1996 to participate in the Atoin Hockey Tournamnent. Donut Gallery's first match was against Whitby's Bank of Montreal. Whitby scored an early goal ini the first period, catching the Orono defencemen by surprise with their quick skating speed. Orono got into the gaine when Chris Ouimet made some good plays to move the puck ahead for Orono in this gaine. Tyler Gregg was playing a strong gamne forechecking, intercepting passes and working hard to even the score, before he was taken out of action midway through the first period as a result of a wicked slash to the thumb which the Referees did not see. Tyler did flot play the rest of the gaine. Shawni DeJong worked hard to make up for the loss of Ty,,ler, by repeatedly keeping the puck on-side when in the of fensive end. In addition, Shawn played good defence, taking a penalty wheni necessary to prevenit Whitby fromn walking in on the Orono goalie. The Uine of Mike Knapp, Matt Barnes and Jeff Dickinson had an outstandinggÉaine. Jefand Matt worked the corners well, battling for control of the puck. Ail three players made sorte good passes and had a number of shots on net. The hard work paid off when Mike Knapp potted a goal late in the third period, foîling Wvhîtb's bid for a shut-out. Whitby won the gaie 3- 1. Orono Donut Gallery moved on to the "B" Semi- Final against Manvers. The teain played it's best gaine of the season in an exciting match that kept the parents and families of the players on the edge of their seats, cheering on the teamn. Oronio(got an early lead when Stephen Webb)I scored his first career goal, unassisted, with. his newly acquired wrist shot. This important goal was a well- deserved re-wardl for the hard work and numerous scoring opportunities Stephen createdi in the previous gamne. Stephien"s goal invigorated an already pumped teain. Tyler Gregg, Kevin Pritchard, Robert Roth, Will Trurn On Your Lights! Clarîngton Hydro To Reduce Rates Clarington Hydro rates are being decreased. Effective April 1, 1996, resi- dential customers will pay an average of 5.3% less for elIectricity. Business eus- tomers will pay an average of 1.6% less. This marks the third year in a row that rates have decreased or frozen. Residential customers who use 1,000 kwh per month will pay 3.9% to 12.4% less than customers Lofgren and Jordan Beacock ail had shots on net. that were stopped by the Manvers goalie. Kevîn Martin and Kienan Williams were solid on defence and each had one breakaway opportunity. With a 1-0 lead, goalie Josh Brandt made a heart- stoppîng save when he found h mself alone against three Manvers players on a rush. However, late in the second period, Manvers managed to even the score. Donut Gallery dld not give up and kept pushing the pace. Robert Roth was the hero who scored the unassisted go-ahead goal for Orono. The Orono teain continued to keep up the pressure, but Manvers got a lucky break- late in the third period, when a shot was deflecte~i in the net. The regulatiori gaine ended in a 2-2 tie, forcing a five- minute sudden death overtime. Despite intense play by both teams, there was no goal and Manvers, eventually won the game in a shoot-out. Orono Donut Gallery left this tournament with the knowledge that they can play intense and passionate hockey. The familles of the players went home with sore throats. And one red-faced tearn member went home with the memory of one of Life's Most 1Embarrassing Moments. Midway through the game, fans noticed what initially appeared to be an extra puck being kicked around on the ice. It soon became evident that one of Orono's players had lost a vital piece of equipment during this very physîcal gaine. The Referee eventually retrieved the item and returned it to the bench. (I promised 1 wouldn't namne the player.) Prior to the Manvers Tournamnent, Donut Gallery played thrce C.R.H.L. games. The summary of points earned in those games by Orono players is as follows: Tyler Gregg - two goals, Kyle MacDonald - two goals, Robe.rt Roth, Jordan Beacock and Will Lofgren earned one assist each. in Clarington served by Ontario Hydro.
