Here League Treasurer Dave Wright presents Ray Bester, President of the Orono Amateur Athletic Association with the cheque. Bowmanville Toastmasters The inclement weather and icy roads did not damp- en the enthusiasm of Bowmanville Toastmasters as we resumed meetings on January 9. Chairman Toastmaster Marilynn Dow chose as her theme the importance of giving a prop- er toast. Members of her head table all gave sample toasts to greet the new year. Their approaches to the toast were varied, but each was appropriate. Toast- master Mike Sullivan pre- sented 'profuse' as the word for the night. In her role as Table Topics Master, Toastmaster Laura Childs presented a challenging review of 1995 as she select- ed a different phase for rem- iniscences from each speak- er. Toastmaster Childs competently explained that each speaker is expected to address the topic, have an opening body and conclu- sion and to fill at least one minute. The assembly was enter- tained by Toastmaster Irene Konzelmann as she relayed a Tale about a faulty gauge. For her efforts she was selected as best speaker. Toastmaster Connie Nelson, with an educational talk, challenged those present to think about neans of improving members satis- faction with the meetings. Toastmaster Nancy Barnes was presented with the best evaluator trophy. Toastmaster Sher Leetooze captured a double header winning both the Spark Plug trophy and the Best Table Topics award. In his thorough analysis of the meeting Toastmaster Gordon West from Baltimore provided both positive and humourous feedback on the evenings activities. Chairman Toastmaster Marilynn Dow was profuse in her thanks to the well pre- pared head table.
