February was a very busy and productive month in the grade 4/5 class at Orono Public School. During this time the students have been learning about pirates and their exciting adventurous lifestyle. We are presently working on the creation of pirate ships from various materials and have designed a test to rate their sea-wor- thiness and speed. The stu- dents will then graph their results and determine which materials along with design produced the best all round vessel. On Friday, February 16th the class travelled to Hampton to see an excellent production put on by Ballet Creole, a classical ballet troupe from Toronto. The students were treated to an entertaining hour of steel drum music, as well as sev- eral dance performances by the various members of the group. Our children even got the chance to take part in several of the dance produc- tions, which they quite enjoyed to say the least. The students in Mr. Spurrell's and Mrs. Turner's class are presently getting ready for the school Invention Convention, which is to take place on Wednesday March 6th. The children will co-operate on a project emphasizing their problem solving skills, and further develop their abilities in rela- tion to technology.
