.....-.'. Orono Weekly Times, WEcdnesdaY, April 1), 1996- 9 I ~1t on March 18, 1996 the Orono Amateur Athletic ASsociation broughit to a successful conclusion their fund raising drive for a new ice resurfacer for the Orono Arena. What began as an item on a wish list eighteen months ago became a necessity as the 1995-96 season unfolded as it became evident that the old ice resur- facer was not likely to last much longer. At that tile a fund raising comnîittee was formed under the chair- manship of Michelle Malda to uindertake the task of raising the necessary funds to pay for the new machine. The O.A.A.A. and the community take pride in the. fact that the administration of the Orono Arena is not accomplished withi municipal funding but is done through the efforts of volunteers from the community s0 the togical approachi for funding- was to go to the local community and businesses to try to raise the $55,000.00 that would be required. The response was overwhelming and was kicked off with a major con- tribution by the Arena Improvements and Projects Committee on october 23, 1995. In only five months the project was complete with a final tally of $56,544.33 with donations coming from many varied and some- times unexpected sources. A special thank you must go out f0 Troy Young and the Orono Weekly Times for their continuing coverage and support which kept the project in the public'eye. Thanks also to each of the following confributors for their.generous support which once more proves the adage thaf Orono is a good place to live.
