Kids Love Hockey Stars The 1996 edition of the minor Atom, Kids Love Hockey Stars AAA club spon- sored by Irwin Tax of Orono took to the ice for the start of the spring season at the Lakeshore Thunder early bird tournament. Local boys on the club include Nathan Adegeest and Matt Caruana (Orono), Tyler Brown (Bowmanville), Eric Shah (Newcastle) and Jesse and Tyson Gimblett (Newtonville). The first game of the tour- nament was against the host Lakeshore Thunder which the boys made an impressive comeback to tie 6-6 after being down three goals with five minutes left in the game. The second game started with the whole team playing flat for the first two periods with solid goal tending by Eric Darling (Oshawa) keeping the score to 3-0 for the Toronto Rangers. Another great third period wasn't enough as the Stars went down 4-3. Starting game three the boys knew they had to win their final two games to have a chance to advance to the finals and they came out fly- ing against the Lakeridge Bullets from Uxbridge to win 5-4. Game four turned out to be the deciding game to see who would advance to play the Thunder in the finals. Can Am from Niagara Falls needed only a tie while the Irwin Tax K.H.L. Stars had to win. After a seesaw game that featured three solid periods of some really great hockey Can Am scored with twenty sec- onds remaining to tie the game and advance. All the local boys contributed with spirited play and timely point' production to help pace the team. Once again many thanks to our sponsor for their contribution again this year.
