It's frue - Memorial Hospital is. looking for people f0 come out f0 the ir annual health week event, Bodies in Motion. Bodies in Motion is a low- impact fitness session run by qualified instructors. If's LOTS of fun, and you can come ouf for as long as you wish- from five minutes to the full fwo hours. Participants pay a $20 reg- istration fee f0 attend, and those collecting pledges cani win great prizes. You'll even get a free water bottie when you register. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at fhe Garnet Rickard Recreation Complex wit h sign-in at 6:30 pm, and acro- bics sfarting at 7 pm through fo 9 Pm. Bodies in Motion is a spe- cial fundraiser for equipmenf for the Hospital's cardio res- pirafoiy department. We need f0 buy pulmonary function (lung test) equipment thaf cosfs $42,000, and we need f0 raise the money soon. A lot of people in the communify need fhe festing thaf this equipment performs. Although we currently do basic fesfing, people have f0 go outside Claringfon for more sophisticated analysis. The neý equipmenf will allow them to stay in the commu- nity. And the Hospital can do more diagnostic festing as well. Typical conditions thaf Ken, our Respiratory Therapisf, would provide test- ing for would be asthma and chronic lungý disease (such as emiphysemýiia, bronchitis). These conditions affect peo- ple of ail ages, from children f0 older adults. The average length of a test is 30- 45 minutes. Ken takes measurements that assess lung volumes (the amount of air leff in the lungs affer breafhing ouf) as well as dit- fusing capacify (how long if takes f0 gef oxygen from the lungs f0 the bloodstream). Histokc Lamp Display AI BowmanvUlle Museum The Historical Lighfing Society of Canada bas loaned the Bowmanville Museum, af 37 Silver Street, a historical- ly significant, collection of 19fh Cenfury lamps. These lamps are-on display in the Marion Wiseman Gallery. Included in the dis- play is Vapo-Cresolene Sick Room Lamp wifh an original box. Also, a, Lucas Bicycle Lamp, a Bradley & Hubbard Brass Stand Lamp and many, many more. This exhibif will be on display until August. The Historical Lighting Society of Canada began in 1981 and now bas over two hundred members across North America. This display is not only f0 help raise awareness of the Society but to incre ase knowledge of antique lighting devices.
