Clarke would like to thank all those who participated in the fair, and also those from the commu- nity who came out to support this event. As for the excitement at the Career Fair, we had some great surprises! If you enjoy animals, we had a surprise for all horse lovers. Anastasia Kuzyk form Windsong Stables brought one of the ponies to the fair. WIth no panic in the gym, and no one hurt, people would wonder why there was an ambulance at the Career Fair. This was only a part of Amy Lywak's display which brought a lot of attention and interest from those who attended. There were other displays that included videos, models, colourful interactive presentations, and music. The Career Fair was a great success. I think we need to thank those who made it pos- sible: Mrs. Kearns; Mrs. MacKenzie; and Mrs. Heeringa. We can't forget their loyal helpers Mrs. Jean Kehoe, and Clarke's former principal, and one of the founders of the co-op pro- gram in Ontario Mrs. Eva Nichols. To all the contribu- tors and those from the com- munity, we want to thank you for supporting Clarke's 1996 Co op Career Fair. We look forward to next year's which will be even better! Pines Senior Public School News On Sunday, May 26 from 1:00 4:00 p.m., Newcastle Town Hall was the venue for another chapter in the histo- ry of The Pines Senior Public School. Over 100 former and current students, parents and staff gathered to cele- brate the retirements of Bill Hansen and Denton Massie. Mr. Hansen and Mr. Massie were part of the team who started The Pines in 1975. Both men spent 35 years in public education. Mr. Massie began his career in Toronto, where he met Robert Bolton, the first Pines princi- pal. After making the move east, Mr. Massie took up com- mand of The Pines' science lab and also taught grade seven core subjects. He was involved in many aspects of school life; including annual fundraising campaigns and coaching soccer. He retires officially at the end of this school year. Bill Hansen first taught in his hometown of Pickering, at both elementary and sec- ondary levels. Before leaving The Pines on December 31, 1995, Mr. Hansen was master of Industrial Arts for 21 years, also teaching core to hun- dreds of grade seven stu- dents. He will be remembered for helping to organize the yearly Ottawa trip, and for frequently coaching soccer and baseball. Citations in honour of these respected teachers were read from three levels of gov- ernment, from the Director of Education, and from Newcastle United Church. Two former principals, Robert Bolton and Ron McKelvey, and current principal, David Gray, brought their personal thanks for years of dedicated service. Students from Clarke High School and The Pines presented cards and gifts. Music was provided by Lia Rutherford and Colin Kaji. The celebration was organized by a large committee of staff led by Bert Gibson, Colette Trudeau and Carol Plath. They would like to thank all of the parents who donated and served refreshments. 60 years of being Orono's Community Newspaper Orono Weekly Times Happy Father's Day! 1 76-'ý--
