Clarke donated the Clar in Clarington, the name now used to describe jointly the area that is composed of' Clarke and Darlington Townships . Inside Clarke youwill find the communîties of Orono, Newcastle, Newtonville, Kirby, Kendal, and a smattering of other, smaller places. Clarke Township has had a long and storied history. Frorn its beginnings in 1796, Clarke bas corne along way. To celebrate this, the Municipality will be holding a small celebration down at the' Bond Head Parketfe, fo mark the location where some of the earliest settlers were located. Also, Richard Lovekin, ancestor of both original familles which made Clarke Township their home, (the Lovekins and the Bates) will be holding a celebration at Kilcolman Farrn, located at the end of Hwy 115 at the 401 to mark the occasion. The farm is located on part of the land orîginally granted to the Lovekins upon their arrivai in 1796. Do go ouf and mark this very special occasion. You neyer know what infcresfing things you can find in your own backyard. THE EDEN MWUSICFEST This weekend, Eden Entertainment will be holding the much anticipated Eden Fest af Mosport Park. The concert bas drawn more than its fair share of controversy. I find myseif in a difficuit situation regar ding the festival itself. On one hand, 1 personally arn thrilled about the concert, seeing as if is predominantly bands that I want to go see, and to -have something this big virtually in my backyard is exciting (not to mention the free 3-day press passes my wife and I received fo the concert). 1 will definitely have a good time. On the other hand, I can sympathize witb the people who live.near the park. I live far enough away from the park itself that I would not be adversely affected, by it. If I lived as close as somne of the people who have voiced concerns, I may feel the same way that they do. It will be Ioud, there will be a lot of people, and the check point systern that will be in place around the park to prevent people from sneaking in will be a pain f0 residents and their guesfs. I have asked the Eden Entertainmenf people for clarification on this a number of times, and stili have yef to hear any word. I also have seen the way things have been donc in regards to the application for the various permits that are required f0 hold an event of this magnitude, and 1 concur witb Mayor Diane Hamre and ber assessment of the process. The permits shouîd bave been deait with weeks ago, instead of leaving things to the last minute. However, in doing so, a lot of free publicity for tbe event was generated, whicb is probably what the people of Mosport and Eden Entertainment warited. I also remember a conversation I once had witb the late Harvey Hudes, once in charge of Mosport Park. Back wben Mosport first received permission to begin holding concerts on their property, be assured me that concerts would only be held in conjunction with racing events.> "If's not like we are planning to hold a huge three-day music festival or something," said Hudes at the time. Unfortunately Mr. Hudes passed away in March of this year, and this music festival may have been sornething that only carne about after bis death. In closing, I hope that the festival is a big success. For rnyself, I bope it is so that tbey can hold more of them, because I would love to be able to go to future concerts there. For those resîdents thatlive around the park, I hope everytbing goes smoothly so that tbey are not inconvenienced very much by the festival. And for Mosport, I hope that it goes alright so that they can continue to hold events of this magnitude there. Regardless of wbat some people think, Mosport Park is here to stay, and the bigger a success they can be, the better it will be for the wbole community. Those who feel that Mosport should bu forced to close and go away, I am sorry to say that will not happen, s0 we had better accept the fact. I wish them luck, and I ýhope that Mosport's neigbbours find that the concert is not as bad as tbey' are afraid it might be.ý See you in the rnosb pit.
