The Apple Blossom Awards are Clarington's way of acknowledging those whose front gardens have that littie bit of extra pizzazz that sets them apart from those around them. The gardens are judged in three categories; tirban, rural, and business /industry. The third annual awards were to have rapped up on August Ist, but have been extended to this Friday, August 9. Anidanyone can ma$ke the nomination, from number. More nominations are wanted. Awards will be given out to the three cate- gories, one winner from ecach ward. Once a person has been nominated, they are contact- ed by the Municipality to see if they would like to partici- pate. Only those who want their gardens included in the competition will be judged. There will be four judges, one from each of the Bowmanville, Newcastle, and Orono Horticultural Societies, and one member from Clarington Public Works. Ju~dging will take place some- time around the end of August. with the actual awards beingi handed out sometime in October. Winning gardens will be judged based on their look fromn the street, the overali design, and how ceolourful the gardens are. Good Iuck to ail those who are lucky enough to be nominated. y1996
