Madness Takes Efeot In Bowmanvî Kyle Robinson, Cory Robinson, and mom Bonnie in the spirit of tlie niglit arriving at Intowne Gal "Dr." Garth Gilpin was handing out Wellness Certificates at the lowatFi niglDIt.A Mo-mnou"Midnight Malness $vent da of the Night,'" at le. Memiories of endless bike rides, umipteen gamews of bide and seek, hikes and celebra- tions of fisliing season opeýn- ing nighls. Memioies of a rock garden filled wvith as mnucli colour as tlie most beautiful rainbow. One could hardly wait for tlie quintessential *wedding phiotograplis in front of that garden. Memnories of a tree-lined alley tliat cafiopied a mnucl useýd cycling, jogging and walking route. And memn- ories of an area of land tliat enables every sense' to be awakened at tlie beginning and end of eacli season. imagine Orono witliout tlie Forestry. It is difficuit to fatli- om tlie idea tliat a place tliat lias always been here miay neyer exist in the same way again. Perliaps thie most diffi- cult tliing to understand is that the assumrption tliat cer- tain parts of our surround- ings, our environment, our1 lives will always be tliere is untrue. Wliho can forget the familiar siglit of a green truck bumping its way down the road stinring dust along the way? Wlio can forget tlie reas- surance of being close to home by the siglit of an orange glow emanating from the greenliouse? These aire tliings tliat probably will not exist again, but that is okay, th-ey're locked in our mninds. Tlie idea of a, botanical gar- den is fantastic. Tlie areca is a prime location for sucli a venue. Greenhouses, barns. offices, land. soil, perliaps vol- unteers, perfect. Hlow does one ensure that an area 50 vital does not becomne a wasteland withi notliing but deteriorating buildings and] land? Tlie tliings tliat do not need to bc ereories are ones that can be a part of our- pre- sent, as they were of our past and will be of our- future. Orono hias been given a won' derful gift- where the sense of escape and adventure can exist. A wonderful maze of trails mneanders througliout the entire area of flora and fauna. One can find fern, Queen Anne's Lace and Black-Eyed Susans. The ForestryV is a primre recreation area rigsht outside our back doors. Tlie area west of Ochonski Road has a set of groomed trails great for bik- ing, hiking or liorseback id- ing. The area west of tlie Mill Pond, always dubbed the "Red Gates" also is a wonder- fu-l area for a littie physical and mental rejuvenation. These are parts of our lives in Orono tliat must exist. Just as sure as there will always be a bank, a flower sliop, a drug store, a bakery, a library, a school there will always be the reassurance that the Forestry will exist. Perliaps not as it has existed in tlie past but tlie Forestry area will always be a part of ouV lives. As residents we can nfot sit back and let others dictate to uis what will be thec destiny for theu Forestryý. Perhaps the outstanding showing at the meceting is proof thiat tlie fuiture- of suchi an area, an ar-ea that lias alwayvs been assumed to remain the same, is important. Pllease tryv liard to remnember whlat it means to youi, the future of our Forestryý car inot be Put in the hands of people it means nothin1g to.
