Al of Newtonville is proud of their Olympic athiete. Letter to the Editor 1I received my Orono Weekly TMmes yesterday, and was delighted to see the photo of my Grandfather, Father, children and me! I see that you- also pub- lished Joan Ransberry's arti- cle about "Mr Tree". Thank you'for using the story for your Wednesday edition. I spoke to my Grandfather in Montreal this momning and he had not yet received his sub scription but expected to see it there todayý. He was delighted to hear that there was a write-up and photo. Many thanks again Troy - you helped to make our spe- cial event even more memo- rable. Cameron and Margaret Knajpp would ike to welcome Deni§e Boardman as a new guider tiis year. Denise brings with lier to the unit many new id@as and lots of enthusiasm. The 1lst orôflo Guides are a very active grOuP in our comn- munity, last year you may have seen themn participating in one of mafly community events such as the Orono Fair Parade, the Clarke Museum Harvest Halloween Party, the Remembrance Day service or clearing tables and washing dishes at the Horticultural Society dinner. The Guides have used their singing voic- es to entertain at the Lighting of the .Lights, the Senior's Christmas Dinner at the Seniors complex and to raise money and food for, the Newcastle Food Bank by car- olling in the Orono Estates Subdivision. As well as providing service to the community the girls have had -a lot of fun as well. The guides enjoyed a number of hikes last year in the for- mer Orono nursery property and they participated in the first Blue Heron Division Rally, at Camp Ademac in Blackstock. Many of the girls experienced their first winter camp at the Claremont Conservation Area, where they leamned about forestry management, winter survival and snowshoeing. The Ganaraska Ranch was the setting for many of the girls first experience on a horse when the lst Orono guides decided to take an evening horseback riding lesson last spring, a good time was had by all. Many of these opportuni- ties would not be available to the girls without the support of our community through cookie and cheese sales. Many thanks toail for your part in the guiding program. Several of the girls are leav- ing this year to advance to Pathfinders. We wish Stephanie C ameron, Lindsay Hawkshaw, Jennifer Stewart, Lauren Crashley, Hea ther Bangay, Jennifer Cox, Rebecca Boyd & Ashlynn Ostrander ail the best as they encounter the new and excit- îng7 challenges of- the Pathfinder program. We have had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs over the past three years with these girls as we learned and grew in guiding together.
