The staff at Orono Public School are working hard to make sure that this year- will provide stu - dents withi opportunities to grow and develop their skills. There has been sorne changes thiis year. Carol Plath, our part-Urne secretary has taken a position at M.J. Hobbs Senior Public School. Margot Turner has taken a position at Courtice South Public School. Joanne Vanderrneer, previously a part-tîrne staff member, j oins us fuil-tirne and will be assurning the Special Education Resource Teacher role vacated by Margot Turner. Ms. Vandermeer will also be teaching one of our three JK/SK classes. In June we also said good-bye and gave aur best wishes to three of our Educational Assistants. Rhonda Warwick, Debbie Srnith and Marj orie Hopcraft ill be working with children in other schools this year. 1 have been pleased to have already spokeni with sorne parents who have indicated a desire to volunteer sorne of their tirne to work with stu- dents in the sehool. 0f course, we always welcorne the interest and involvernent in the school. Please do not hesitate to eall your child's teacher to arrange tirne to corne in. For those of you who would like to help in ways other than direct work with students, we welcome your support too! Our children are truly our rnost valuable resource. Parents and teachers need to support their successes and challenge thern to grow and develop to the best of their abilities. Please remember that tearn work between home and school is the best way to maxirnize the learning opportunities for your chul- dren. You are always wel- corne to call or visit the school ta discuss your child's progress or any concerns and ideas you rnay have. I arn looking forward ta welcorning all of you! Parent or cornrnunity volunteers can, help out in a variety of ways that include helping in the classroorns, in the library, or on trips, assist- ing individual or snall groups of students, sharing a hobby or interest or serving on corn- mittees. Morning Personality of KX 96 has decided to broadcast on the -roof of Owasco Volkswagon in Whitby in an old camper van-until ail tick- ets are sold (or until the dead- line for entry, whichever cornes first.) Jerry's leaving during his show Monday September 9, at 7:30 a.m. possibly joined by Durhamn Regional Police escort, and who knows how long he'll be there??? We hope to sell out of tick- ets and help friends and neighbours in our communi- ty less fortunate than our- selves.
