Recently opened is the Hickory House, a family restaurant located in the same building as Coffee lime Donuts. Owner Gregori Kilchok came to Canada from his native Russia f ive years ago and has worked hard at establishing a business. He opened the Coffee lime Donuts a year ago because he wanted to get involved wth a proven, qua.lity company. 'Business, has been good," says Gregori. His Coff ee lime offers something a little different then most; ice cream. Gregori says that he does a brisk business with his ice creamn in the summer. He also owns the Esso and Pizza Pizza outlet just south of his location. 'I wanted one place where people cou Id get everything they need." When asked why he would want to open a restaurant with his already existing donut shop,:Gregori replied "a lot of people want to eat more than donuts and coffee. They want good food and a place to relax." Many of Gregoris customers said that it was a good location for a restaurant, so he opened up The Hickory House. The food is typical Canadian country fare, made with that just like home taste. Catering to travellers, families, -and those who-are just looking for a place to relax, the Hickory House has pool tables, video games-, t.v. and is fully licensed. There is even a special "kiddie area" with kids size tables and activi- ties to keep them busy if moms and dads want to enjoy a leisurely dinner. The interior is done al n the country style; dark wood board'and batten walls with dark green highlights give it a very quaint look. So if you are looking for a new family restaurant to try, remember the Hickory House, the first place south of Peterborough and Lindsay on the 35/115 Highway. Past 10 Years Sonbon Homes Ltd. has been building qualify homes since 1 986. That is when Armond Young, known to most as Sonny, took a summer's leave of absence from General Motors and began building homes. Handy ail his lite, Sonny had buiît his own home on the fifth concession in Orono in 1978, as well as having renovated a num- ber of homes. "We use to do a lot of renovating while we pursued other careers. 20 years of renovating houses and building and moving leff us with a lot of experience,", said Sonny. And starting with that experience and a few carpenters, Sonny took a leave of absence from his job at General Motors to build the first two link homes in Newcastle. From those humble beginnings, Sonbon Homes has grown into a very successful and respected company. Sonbon Homes has resisfed branching out into bigger projects, content mainly f0 build custom homes for individual clients. "We're not developers. We're not interested in large scale developments. We like the personal, interaction with individu- ais. We like to make-our clients dreams into their realify," said Yvonne Young, trea- surer of the company. For those of you who are wondering where the name Sonbon came from, tf s the merging of Sonny and Bonnie, his wife Yvonne's nickname.) Sonbon Homes has made a name for tself in the quality of work that they do. They are not willing Io sacrifice that quality for quantity, another reason they keep it small. You can't keep on top of ail the work that is being done if there is too much going on. By keeping our focus small, you can guarantee the quality of work you give to your clients," said Troy Young, Armond and Yvonne's son who is involved in the company. This has worked well for Sonbon Homes; they have always had an excellent rating with the Ont ario New Warrantee Program. It is this focus that has made themn a suc- cess. "Most of our work comes to us by recommendations from past clients," said Sonny. --- ---- Branch Manager F E: C-(J--F ------ -- 7K71 N a 1 '5Y3, COFFIE TIM F FamiIy Restaurant DO UT 8786 Hwy. 35/115 southbound just south of Lindsay exit 983-9742 Newcastoe Auto Colision "The Vintage Car Experts" body work- insu rance jobs fuil service garage servicmng ail rakes of vehicles 80 King St. East, Newcastle 987-1694 REGAL CAPIT1AL PLANNERS 24 King StE Bowmanvîlle 623-1936 Stephen G.
